Fuckin' insurance companies are a scam. Check this out - I'm not embellishing or making any of this up:
As some of you know, I've been scripted Lyrica for anxiety after Prozac and Valium failed. Well, Lyrica works like a charm for my anxiety with no negative side effects. The only down side is that Lyrica is a motherfucker on the wallet. The shit is very expensive. Well, after refilling two prescriptions on my own dime (since my insurance refuses to pay for it), I said fuck this and decided to go to my doctor to see what kind of funding options are available to me.
This was last week (Friday, 9th)...I go in to the Doc's office. His nurse speaks to me initially about what this visit is all about. I give her the song and dance. She politely excuses herself and another lady comes in and tells me to follow her to her office. We walk to a seperate wing of the hospital to her office. Apparently she is some higher up that acts as a liason between the insurance company and the doctors. She shuts the door to her office, I take a seat. She starts to rant about how 'corrupt' the insurance companies are, and immediately starts to go about looking for options that would 'force' my insurance to fund Lyrica.
Apparently, the insurance company wants to see that I have tried either a tricyclic anti-depressant or gabapentin before they will pay for Lyrica. So I now have a script for gaba, which will only serve as documentation - proof that I jumped through their hoops - that will eventually force them to pay for Lyrica.
So essentially I have a script for a medication that doesn't serve me only to satisfy their black and white medication requirements. Pretty asinine huh?
WHEW! If you read through that entire thing you get a cookie and a pat on the ass...
