I love the classics.

I am currently reading the Aenied by Virgil which has been neglected on my book shelf for a while. I have just about every Roman and greek classic that Penguin books have published.

I even wrote a modern day satirical version of one the Theban plays by Sophocles back when I did creative writing.

I need to learn french so that I can finally understand all 3 of the language in James Joyces Ulysses. Difficult book. But it has so many great parallels to the Odyssey.

To be honest, I like picking for its own sake. I still have mushrooms from last year, but it's just a wonderful experience. Last year, I was on Dartmoor (a magical place anyway), picking these little mushrooms that somehow seem to have so much personality, when a pack (herd? shoal?) of wild ponies game galloping out of the mist. What more could you ask for?

Picking mushrooms and eating them while on the hunt is a magical experience.

My favourite spot is up a mountain by a stream, so many psychoactives. It's blissful.

Haha did you miss me?

I have been around a little lately, but not posting much.

Edit: and i didn't even notice i'd surpassed 2000 posts recently.

:D I'm glad, though, even if I wasn't I doubt that I'd be going anywhere.

My government sponsored holiday is coming to an end also. After 10 months of unemployment benefits, I'm back in the game. Albeit only for 2 days a week.

I get all excited at the prospect of being able to tell chapter-and-verse-spouting zealots that their understanding is not consistent with the nuances of the original Greek. I'm a bit of a nerd, aren't I?).

Just parroting "hekas este bebeloi" could kill two birds with one stone as a quick fix, though you'd hardly make it throught the Iliad with that alone.

Money does happen to be something that I require to continue living.

It's also october! And in the land down under that means it's crop sowing time. Guerilla growing is so much fun. Except for when those damn kangaroo's eat your crop (and no this isn't some crocodile dundee fuelled aussie joke, the bastards do wreck a crop quite happily)

^^Afar, Afar, O ye Profane!

Yeah, don't think you're gonna wade through the illiad with that. Maybe the Golden Ass. Hrmmm.

Is it just me, or is the Iliad a bit dry? I mean, it's not without its charms, but the Odyssey is just much more exciting imo. You're so ready for him to fuck up the suitors by the end of it.

I love it when that bum jips him off, and he considers killing him with a single punch, but has mercy and just shatters his jaw :D Original badboy.

Reminds me of that Psalm.

Arise, Oh Lord! Deliver me, Oh my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked

Reminds me of Samson. Kill a thousand people with a jawbone. Who do you think would win in a fight between Odysseus and Samson? Anyone else want to play myth association?

Are we talking before or after Delilah cut off his hair?

I mean Odysseus would whoop the hairless Samson.

He'd probably just eat a slice of wonderbread and go right back to bed.

Edit:
How about dieties? Zeus Versus Thor, the battle of the Thunder gods.

I think I'd have to go with Zeus, I mean he killed Time. I guess thats why gods never age?

Edit x 2: Wait he killed Cronus, not Chronos... Damnit.
