^it depends - you could check out socials in other forums for examples. In OD, drug discussion wasn't allowed for most of it but at times mentioning shit like what you were on was fine but not asking questions and such (that's what every OTHER thread was for).

The reason why I think it was positive was it increased the community-feel of the forum, allowed regulars to connect and get to know each other, kept a solid base of people around often (which had an effect on knowledgeable people answering questions, memberating, etc,) but as that link demonstrates, it was also a huge drain on staff and produced a lot of problems as well.
 
^its definitely something to consider but I don't think would be instituted immediately either way. There is FAAAAAR too much work to be done to distract a new team of moderators with having to watch over something like a social right away.
 
Its hard to distill what makes a good moderator into a set of adjectives but I'll try... they should be consistent, knowledgeable, diplomatic and patient but firm and responsible.

Oh, i definitely agree on that, i have recommended many drugs. especially after recommending LSD, to a bunch of friends, and they said they had the best experience of their life. and not too long ago, i recommended n,n-dmt to one my buddies, and i did it with him and his friend- they both said they had life changing moments, and they now look at things with a whole new perspective. and all they did before that was smoke, never had a trip or anything, lol..

i just dont recommend heroin to anybody, after what ive been through, and half my friends have been through (the other half are dead, 1 in jail). i say if you really want to try it, sniff it- if you touch the needle your as good as gone (on addiction). i just dont want to see anybody go down the same path as i did, so if i can explain what ive been through, hopefully i can get them to think twice about trying heroin (at least iv). you understand where im coming from though? i recommend a lot of substances, (except heroin, although i had some pretttyy great times on H too, take the good with the really bad)

I agree to some extent...since, well, everyone in here is either a mod/applying to be a mod/a BLer who contributes quite a lot. A social would involve lots of other posters who may not fall into those 3 categories. I do think it's something to be considered once the new staff is chosen AND settled in...but I also see the downsides of it after seeing the OD social. I think it'll be up to the Smods + the new mods somewhere down the road.

Sometimes, things are good ideas in theory but don't work out...and I agree, socials are not exactly the most fun thing to moderate, you can probably count the number of posts I've made in the CD social on 2 hands, honestly. We also clearly had some issues with it, since everyone can see the NSFW warning we had to place on it. But, once again, just something to consider in the future :)

That's why I can tell they are vital parts of many of the forums around here and basically every busy forum EXCEPT OD has one... big difference though between the hippies in PD who are staring at the walls and the group in OD where at any given time 1 in 5 are sick as shit and want to beat everyone like piñatas to see if opiates fall out. ;)

I agree, I remove my statement saying that a social would be the "worst thing in the world", but maybe its something we could do a bit down the road, because it would be even more distracting than this social is.

I do also think that the fact that 1/5 ODers are dopesick/thinking about dope/some combination of that so that's what makes OD special. That being said, I still love OD :)

But I also love BDD ;)

We should have a BDD Seroquel poll. What's the ruling on polls in BDD? Or is that just a DC type deal? I'm beginning to think that everybody has tried Seroquel and therefore has a horrible or at least somewhat interesting story to go with it.
