Alright good, my friend said they were making bane Russian.

I have complete confidence in Anne Hathaway to play cat woman in her most sultry and not slutty way possible. or, correctly. but this whole bane not lumbering around on venom all the time thing really urks me though.

But then again, I'm still raging about Captain America is too tiny

bane

I think the new batman series are trying to be more plausible and less over-the-top with their heroes and villains...

that's was fine with the Joker you can play him that way. But muthafucking bane is a comic book character. A BATMAN CHARACTER his real world equivalence is null. And unlike the joker you cannot play him in a philosophical way.

And just to reiterate
MOTHA FUCKIN BANE

I totally agree with everyone saying Bane needs to be more jacked. It's such a huge [no pun intended] part of his character. Get a bodybuilder, imo.

I hear they said just wait. like they're going to make it okay. MOTHA FUCKA IT'S BANE he's addicted to a super steroid! thats his backstory and it never changes, deep down he has a heart of gold but he's to fucked up from growing up in prison and then been subjected to being treated like a lab rat to function like a normal person.
Tom Hardy is fucking shorter than christian bale.
for god sake lliam neeson would be a better bane.

You can't play the super genius bane card until after he's been helped by the batman.

I think this film is gonna rock - regardless of the arguments about Bane's size, Tom Hardy is an awesome actor and Nolan has a perfect tack record of making superb movies - Batman Begins/The Dark Knight/Inception/Memento are all absolute classics already, I can't wait, Have faith!

Minor correction, Axl: "Knightfall" is the arc where Batman was incapacitated, while "No Man's Land" is the (longer) arc following the earthquake that nearly destroys Gotham City.

Excuse Axl, he doesn't know much about comics. :(

honestly I am elated to be corrected so much by such esteemed BLers in McGrunge and yourself, Beli!!

finally I have some fellas I can talk comics with! I would post pics of my collection - but it would only make me look like more of a dork

and I'm not too worried about Tom Hardy being buff enough for Bane. I just want people to realize that Bane is one of the DEADLIEST Batman foes in his realm - both cerebrally speaking and physically speaking. he goes to Gotham just to fuck with Batman because he knows fighting the Bats would prove to be the best challenge for him

Nope! Just Batman :)

I really don't care for comic books outside of Batman and a few other odd series.

Scarecrow was deadlier.

Here is a progress photo to show Tom Hardy's gains in five months. As someone who is currently working out and trying to gain muscle, color me impressed.

OOooooh I just found an intersting theory that I might be okay with. It seems like they may be going with the bane is the new ra's al gul arc

just saw the full proper trailer before the dictator... fucking whoah.

All this comic talk is giving me boner. A nerd boner.

I`ve got high hopes for The Dark Knight Rises. Sure I`d like to see Bane super huge(and I still think there may be a chance of that) but even if that ends up not being the case I`m sure Nolan won`t fuck it up. And the new Bat Wing(if that`s what it is) looks sweet!

^ welcome on board to the nerd thread! nerd-boners are our specialty, here! and yeah, Batman's new whips + gadgets have been increasingly breath-taking. that's another thing that the Nolan Bros have done very well. Batman doesn't really have any superhuman powers (save for his insane wealth), so his toys factor in a lot here in his ability to overcome Gotham's Crazies

and I mean I would LOVE to see Bane as big as he is portrayed in the comics... I mean, the dude is a truly intimidating villain. however, I would rather they get a good actor (like Hardy) over some inept, muscled, idiot who doesn't even realize the gravitas of his role (*cough cough* Schumaker's Bane *cough*). plus, in Nolan's Bat-World (which is damn realistic considering it's based on a ZANY comic for kids!) I don't think having Bane as big as we are used to him being portrayed in the books would fly that well.judging by Max Power's pic, Tom Hardy looks well buff enough to get away with it. and damn! look at Tom go! I was initially suspect of him doing Bane because from what I remembered, Hardy wasn't even a "big" guy to begin with! quite impressive

but for the sake of chatting about one of my most fave comics characters among other fans - do you all find yourselves saddened at the fact that this is THE LAST Nolan/Batman movie? he's made it clear that he would be doing a trilogy and a trilogy only. a Batman trilogy without Catwoman is unthinkable, so I'm glad he's putting her in and I hope her entrance doesn't seem rushed. I like Bane, but to be honest I think I favor the likes of the Penguin, the Riddler, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc, Hush, Man-Bat, Harley Quinn, Solomon Grundy, and (even) Mr. Freeze more than Bane, at least when it comes to being portrayed on the big screen

fwiw - I would have LOVED to see Danny DeVito reprise his role as the Penguin, in Nolan's universe. I also would have LOVED to see the Nolan Bros do either Crispin Glover or even Eddie Murphy as the Riddler! chances are, Batman will get treated as the cash cow it is and instantly thrown into a reboot.... that sux

a BLACK Ridler! you don't say!!

Crispin Glover would've been a great Riddler, for sure. :)

Yes, sad to see Nolan go, but his talents are needed elsewhere in Hollywood (and Inception shows he has a lot of good stuff left to offer big-budget cinema). Afraid the next Batman will suck, though.

) over some inept, muscled, idiot who doesn't even realize the gravitas of his role (*cough cough* Schumaker's Bane *cough*).

Well, in that actor's defense, Bane's shittiness was entirely Schumacker's fault. I doubt he read a single Batman comic before working on the film or even knew what a "Bane" was.

Penguin, the Riddler, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc, Hush, Man-Bat, Harley Quinn, Solomon Grundy, and (even) Mr. Freeze

I didn't even think of it until just now, but Hush would be a WAY better villain for Hardy to play than Bane - his costume is already more than half-way there to begin with.

fwiw - I agree with you guys on all four points. Hush would have just been a plain bad ass Bats villain for Nolan to do. I was a HUGE fan of both Nolan's Memento and Insomnia, and I feel like he could put a nice spin on Hush's close connection to the Wayne Family

and I agree, movies need a director like Nolan out there making more... creator-owned type of movies (like Inception, Memento...). however, there is a STRONG argument that comics need Nolan even MORE to do comic-book-movies. sure, the comic-to-movie movie has taken leaps and bounds ever since around circa 2000, but there still are tons of flops made (Daredevil, anyone?). the Marvel franchised movies are great, but Batman is so dark and brooding in contrast to Marvel's (and shit, the rest of DC's) vibrant, bright, colors

and Joel Schumacker tried to do the bright n goofy thing with Batman, and look where that heap of shit turned out to be. sure, it wasn't the actor playing Bane's fault, and even if he was a well-read comic nerd I doubt he would have been able to sway the Director's mind anywhoo ;)

but yah man... I just keep on fantasizing about Crispin Glover doing the Riddler by Christopher Nolan... or even Nolan, once again, reprising DeVito's Penguin!!

Batman has, IMO, the most impressive and diverse gallery of rogues of any superhero around - even minor villains like Zsasz or Firefly have the potential to make for some really cool movie experiences. Bane is a great character, Knightfall is an even better story arc, but I feel like Nolan could have chosen a different villain/arc to focus on given his casting choices.

I think at this point I'd prefer Nolan use CGI to make Hardy look less-wimpy, even if it means degrading the overall visual style of the film. I just can't picture Tom Hardy as Bane, no matter how hard I try.

epic runtime and epic what-if

Meanwhile Collider came across an apparent runtime listing for the film on the official AMC site.

The website lists "The Dark Knight Rises" coming in at a whopping 165 minutes (2hrs 45min), 12 minutes longer than the 153 minute runtime of "The Dark Knight", which itself was 12 minutes longer than "Batman Begins" at 141 minutes.

and

Finally today, scribe David S. Goyer revealed in a recent interview with Empire that after "The Dark Knight" came out, Warner execs were thinking of getting Leonardo DiCaprio to play The Riddler in 'Rises' until Nolan decided on using Bane as the villain.

also, caught the full trailer again in the theatre. maybe it's an old print, but i really had difficulty understanding bane.

Would have been very interesting to see where DiCaprio would have taken The Riddler. Can't imagine him in a 'dark' role like this, but he's talented enough where I wouldn't put it past him. No doubt his wouldn't have been a cartoonish portrayal like Jim Carrey's; it would have been a dark and sinister take sans the cheesy 90s question mark-riddled costume. Speaking of what-ifs, I personally would have loved to see Scarecrow as an on-screen Batman villain. You could do so much with that, in terms of exploring Batman's psyche.

Axl, shame you don't play video games because Batman: Arkham Asylum was such a great game. No doubt the second one was equally as badass, but haven't gotten around to playing it. Check out this pic for actual gameplay of him fighting Bane. Pic is too big to post here.
