The twisted tale of Derek Medina, the South Miami man who shot his wife and then posted pictures of her body on Facebook, has taken another strange turn. According to CBS Miami, his lawyers have filed paperwork with the court declaring that bath salts were found in the couple's home. Medina's defense team believes that the victim, Jennifer Alonso, may have been using the drug and wants tests to be done to see if the drug was in her system at the time of her death.

The defense claims that a form of synthetic ecstasy was found hidden in a bottle of Alonso's garlic supplements.

Before Medina shot Alonso, Alonso was shown in surveillance video from inside the house hitting Medina. Bath salts can cause aggressiveness, anger and panic.

"It's a cursory look into something that could potentially be substantial," defense attorney Saam Zangeneh told the station. "It's got the appeal that if we can connect the dots, it could be substantial in the outcome of this case."

Medina is charged with first degree murder, but his defense team is claiming that he acted in self defense when he shot his wife point blank in the head in the couple's kitchen. They claim that Alonso had been constantly hitting Medina, and threatened him with a knife.

A journal belonging to Alonso, entitled "Inside the Mind of an Insane Woman," may also be brought up in the case. Though, friends and family of Alonso claim that Medina was the abusive member of the couple, and that Alonso had left him several times.

I love how they try to make it out like drugs cause these people to be murders, while im sure it doesn't help it wont make you just go out and start killing people.

Also even if she had hit him and threatened him wouldnt it have been smarter to just leave the house. There is no excuse for this sh it and shady defense attorneys will look every where for one.

Next he'll be insane when this one fails.

How the fuck can he expect sympathy when he posted pictures of her fucking body on facebook.
"It's okay it was self defense, she was high on bath salts"
What a pile of shit

It's defensible to do anything, because, drugs are bad, mmmkay.

Myself I only take organically grown ecstasy. I grab it by the phenyl ring and prune it right off the branch. Fresh and mellifluous.

Why do people even try these wacky drugs like bath salts? shit is so sketchy i would never try something like that, i tried smoking spice once and it sucked never again.

For working-class married people that probably don't buy drugs online, getting something at the gas station is easier than getting something from some guy in the ghetto.

^^^^ Yeap, that's the weird part to all this - although demonized in the media, any regular/normal drug user would, or at least should, never have anything to do with bath-salts or spice, etc.

But yeah, what the fuck is up with these normal people and bath salts...bath salts are not comparable to coke goddammit...hell they're not even a normal fucking drug...there should seriously be campaigns in the US for amateur drug users to be forced to look at Erowid, there are always a good number of horror stories on there about this exact same shit, maybe not murder, but along the same lines of getting fucked up after just doing this shit a few times, shit, sometimes even after just the first time they take it.

People are often drawn to legal drugs for just that reason, they're legal. People who are more concerned about the law than their health may make the mistake of using "Bath Salts" under the false impression that a legal drug might also be "safer" than an illegal one... whoops.

I guess it depends on what you mean for "ecstasy" (which is a very vague term btw)

Indeed it is...

btw what are bath salts supposed to be? is it a specific chemical or just a random mixture of cathinones/stim rcs/whatever the fuck gets you high?
never heard about someone using them in my country, it just sounds so odd to me that they sell them at fucking gas stations in the USA

"Bath salts" are basically any RC. The media has a catch-all phrase that group the most benign substance with the most harmful and calls them all "bath salts".
