Stop resisting!
Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) and Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) will introduce "bi-partisan legislation tomorrow ending the federal war on marijuana and letting states legalize, regulate, tax, and control marijuana without federal interference," according to a press release from the Marijuana Policy Project that just hit my inbox. More from that email:

Other co-sponsors include Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN), Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO), and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA). The legislation would limit the federal government’s role in marijuana enforcement to cross-border or inter-state smuggling, allowing people to legally grow, use or sell marijuana in states where it is legal. The legislation is the first bill ever introduced in Congress to end federal marijuana prohibition.

Rep. Frank’s legislation would end state/federal conflicts over marijuana policy, reprioritize federal resources, and provide more room for states to do what is best for their own citizens.
I called Morgan Fox at MPP to ask about the chances that this bill will get any serious debate time in the House (a fair question, considering that it has only one Republican supporter at the moment). "It's definitely going to get a serious debate, probably more in the media than on the floor of the House," Fox told me. "But I think it needs to be debated on the floor."

I want to hug Ron Paul. Anyone interested in REAL change in 2012 will vote for him, not another Republicrat. Here's a rundown of his views, for those who don't know (and he's got a 30 year voting record to back it up):

*End the drug war
*End the federal reserve
*Strong military for defense, not war in other countries
*States rights (abortion, same-sex marriage, capital punishment, education handled at state level)
*Lower taxes
*Personal rights (right to bear arms, free speech, personal drug use, prostitution, etc)
*End the Patriot Act
*Stronger anti-pollution/environmental legislation

...and much more. Basically, Paul wants more personal and state-level freedoms, privacy and reduced government interference with day-to-day life. Before calling him "crazy", do yourself a favor and check out his website and Youtube videos to see what he's really about. He's really not as "radical" as he's made out to be.

/off soapbox. Lets hope this marijuana legalization thing gains enough steam to affect REAL CHANGE!!!

This will pass for 1 of 2 reasons:

-Congress behind closed doors recognizes how unconstitutional the drug war is, and will provide the People with legislation standing up to the Feds

-Or Corporations will lobby the shit out of this passing, because there is an enourmous amount of money to be made by THC products, hemp, and marijuana itself

Sadly, it's mroe than likely going to be the latter even IF it passes

it won't pass
(lots more reasons than what you mentioned, too :/ )

I hope it passes.
I feel that the tide is turning, but I am not sure if it has already turned.
My optimist says "it is long overdue, and this will finally change things!".
My relatively objective side thinks we may have another several years of struggle before something like this passes.
My pessimist says "just another bullshit bill that will never become law, designed to get votes, but not to make a real change and grant people freedom".

qft!

I hope this passes just because it will make my government look stupid..

There are other reasons for my support, but that's definitely no. 1

I will shave my head if this passes. Totally serious.

As much as I want it to, I have a feeling that most representatives in congress don't want a pro-marijuana bill on their voting record.

I think the lobbyists are definitely against this, particularly pharmaceutical lobbyists.
