Bali Bomb Blast

i could get into lots of theories and all,
but at the end of the day innocent people were slaughtered.
i cant describe what i feel towards the victims and their relatives.
the worst thing is, you could be next.

A very sad day. My condolences go out to anyone who has friends or family that were involved.
It sickens me that some people can use inocent civilians as a tool of retaliation. I am also worried that Australia was most likely an intended victem of all this.
All I can do is hope that this is dealt with extremly carefully and with Australia's best intrests at heart.

My deepest condolences to all affected by this attack. The important thing to remember is not to act rashly, or allow our government to either.

This is terrible. Anyone who has been to Bali knows the friendliness of the people, their great character and the absolute poverty that they live in. The tourist dollar is vital to Bali, now much of their economy will self-destruct, this could well be the end of Bali. It's terrible that ANY people died, even more tragic for us when we can identify with people we know who were hurt, or peope's whose lives are similar to ours. Actions like this against anyone is disgusting.
But, as always, there are people who manage to detract from the sympathy that should be expressed, and rational thought...
And if it was (terrorists, muslim fanatics, al-qaeda, etc my comments), it shows that they've (downer & johnny) pissed them off enough for them to retaliate.
Mr Horse, i find that comment possibly one of the most offensive and ignorant i've ever seen on BL. What exactly is the course of action that "downer&johnny" have embarked in to piss (at this point in time - PERSONS UNKNOWN) off enough as to blow up a fucking club full of tourists in a foreign country?? Please explain that to me. Explain to the fucking families of the dead how there could be some blame attributed or the actions somehow justified by what they have "done". In case you haven't realised, both you and others in this post (i'm looking at you boom), Australia has done relatively nothing military, nothing discriminatory, NOTHING to provoke an attack against its nationals in a foreign country. Especially on innocent tourists. Also, why think it was directed at Australia specifically? Sure it could it be a measure by Indonesians against Australians following Timor. It also could be Indonesian muslims opposed to western excess in their country. It could even be Osama himself who pushed the button.. could have been a whole host of things, but for people to point fingers back at Australia's "actions" defies belief.
Comments above about how John Howard and/or Australia's actions have brought this on Australia n citizens is the biggest load of fucking shit i have ever seen. Fucking disgraceful. You should be ashamed of yourselves. To even seek some sort of justification for what happened is totally warped.
How sad that when 100s of people die in a gutless action overseas, people point fingers on our own shores.

I had a Strange feeling when I heard about the blast. It turns out that a friend of mine was there and survived the carnage. She was airlifted to Darwin with burns and shrapnel wounds...but she is alive and that's great.
Her story is on page 2 of today's age. The one with the picture of the two girls squatting down on the street. Interesting reading.

got a phone call from my aunt in wa last night, my cousin (her daughter) was real upset, her leavers week trip's off now (no prizes for guessing where they were going to go??)
so she's doing the silly thing and staying with me in sunny melb for the week, where stuff'll probably be even be less safe and irreponsible, but that's wht older cousin are for right?

BongoBongo its good to hear that ur friends are ok.
Im in the same situation as you.
Some very good friends of our family were all over there sitting in the restaurant accross the road from the club and we're shattered with glass and thrown to the floor, but they are safe and well and are coming home today.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and families affected by this tragic event.

I think the political arguments are best left for another thread. My thoughts and condolences to those families who have lost loved ones or waiting to hear from them right now.
It really hits home when you realise that those who died are young, Aussie party-goers. Just like us, the people that read this board. It might be a different scene, different choise of poison, but ultimately the same intent, young people going out and having a great time. For that, many young Aussies lost their lives on Saturday night.
:-(

One of my sisters left Bali on like the Saturday or Friday morning I think. She goes to Bali a lot, and has a lot of friends over there.
I was just glad to hear that she was home and safe and sound (well relatively speaking), but I think she may know quite a few who were in the area.
What a sad time it is.

Just started a new job today.
Another girl who I will be working with had a boyfriend in Bali at the time.
Apparently he is in a stable but critical condition, but no where near stable enough to bring back to Oz just yet.
the world is going straight to hell.

The daughter of one of my mums best friends is one of the confirmed dead :(
I didn't know her that well... dammit this whole thing disgusts me.

its fucking disgusting what happened,i feel for all those people, the footage is awful i guess i can relate to this tradegy alot cos ive partied at the sari club too and reliase how many young people and aussies and people from allover the world come and have fun and drink jungle juices!.. i too feel sorry for the balinese who live around kuta, they are the freindlist nice ppl they practically live off the tourism and for a while its just going to be fucked :(
im not gonna get political but it i dont think it was an australian attack i think it was aimed as a message for the indonesian gov.. woops got political..
anyway :( its awful

what a mad world.
as we all wish to try analyse this ever-evolving crisis, try remember that we cannot take such a simplistic view of our world. theres all sorts of reasons this might have happened. but obviously there are people in many regions all over the world that despise the west and its influences.
how can we even try to fix this situation? it will take a global effort. we are all involved. even here in australia, we cannot hide from such major world issues and hope they wont get anywhere near us.
heres to hoping for a brighter and safer world in the future.

supaspeed: get a grip. You took me completely out of context.
My gripe was at downer's insensitive dealing of the situation.
The rest was a conspiricy theory which i still believe.
Anyway, i'm finished talking here. Got a problem? email me

my flatmates mate's boyfriend is one of the missing in bali :( apparently he was in the sari niteclub that nite :(

There was a big bang, everyone immediatley screams it was an act of terrorism.. Maybe? Most likely no, I'm going to go out on a limb here, and if I get shot down and proven wrong later, so be it.
After listening to 3AW (melb talk back radio station) it shed some light on the subject. They had an interview with the Channel 9 cameraman currently over there, and he pointed out exactly what he saw, statements straight out of people's mouth's that where there at the scene... and it went a little something like this...
People from both Pubs, said that the blast came from the back of the venue's (ie. not in the street)
The damaged caused from the blast could not have done so much internal damage if there was infact a car bomb in the street. (ie. things broken and shattered, not burnt to a crisp)
People in Bali, go to the shop and buy there gas, like we go for our bbq, except there's is for household running.
An explosion from one of these gas canister's happen every two months or so, and is not uncommon.
The car that the bomb was supposed to have been in, still had the roof on, intact.
So, without all the over doing of the TV new's there are some of the hardline facts about the inncident...
Looking at it from another point of view that could be *possible*, like anything else...
American soilder's left Indonesia 3 weeks ago, and was known to occupy the Sari Club. From the other point of view and just say it was planned, Were they after the American's?? and they went through with it anyway even though they had left. And there just happen to be Australian's there.. as usual. I find it hard to believe that if it was an attack that it was aimed at Australians...
IMHO.

I'm not going to point my cyberfinger at any particular group or faction but to say this wasn't a terrorist attack is pretty delusional.
It wasn't an accident that a nightclub full of foreigners (us) got blown up. It is an act of terrorism in what happens to be a strongly Islamic country.
I'm thinking there are some clues there. An Indonesian Official has come out and acknowlegded there are Al Qaeda links in Indonesia.
Taken from the NY Times
An Indonesian official made that nation's most explicit acknowledgment that Al Qaeda was operating there. "The Bali bomb blast is linked to Al Qaeda with the cooperation of local terrorists," the defense minister, Matori Abdul Djalil, said in Jakarta, the capital. "I am not afraid to say, though many have refused to say, that an Al Qaeda network exists in Indonesia." Article
Time will tell who is responsible
