Balance purchasing

Okay ... what's the best way to go about purchasing a nice, accurate piece of equipment? I'd prefer to pay cash in a store, obviously, but I want some form of support incase this rather large investment (i've never seen anything accurate to .1g go for <$2-300) malfunctions. Also, does anyone know if there are in stores in Kansas City or Denver that would carry this type of equipment. Any other topical advice would also be appreciated. Thanks

I don't really know what this has to do with Other Drugs. But you'll pay around 100-200% markup in stores. I bought my digital scale accurate to 1/100th at a online store on ebay for $120. The scale's manufacturer backs it with a full lifetime guarentiee provided it is used properly (isn't all beat up if you send it back). A 1/10th digital scale in the stores around here costs around $150, at that same online store on ebay it costs $50. Your gonna save some serious cash buying online. And you can send it in the mail to the manufacturer to have it replaced if it malfunctions.

How accurate do you want? You can get a cheap little single-beam balance accurate to around 10mgs for like $20.... I have one, it's a pain to use, but you save a lot of money.

A scale accurate to .1 (100mg) will cost about $50-$100 and you can get them anywhere - head shops, jewelry supply stores, etc.. if you want something accurate to anything less the price goes up.. to 10mg and you will pay about $150-$300.. to the miligram (.001) and you pay $300+ .. sometimes you will find a good deal though..

Advice for balances on ebay --
Search for "Diagem" once in a while. There's a digi w/ miligram accuracy that sells a bunch from an online store on ebay for about 150-175 bucks.
Fellow bluelighter had one which worked great apparently untill he dropped it (i think into the toilet)..lmao. I'm not going to mention names though.

Jesus, you guys are either getting horribly ripped off or I just got a really good deal. I don't remember where I got my scale, but it is a little 10g one with one beam and two sliders by Deering Precision Instruments. It is marked down to 1mg, but you can't really get closer than 5-10mg accuracy with it. I did a search for "Deering Precision scales" and found it at the site below for $35 (fourth one down), sure you can find a better price if you look a little.

Just go to a scientific supply store...There is at least one in Wichita...I can tell you where. Just ask next time you see me.

I couldn't see that little thing beign accurate to 10mg, hell, I don't know if 10mg would even register on that .. I certinly wouldn't measure out any drug thats milligram sensitive..

Well, of course I wouldn't try and measure 10mg on that.... with a range of +-10 mg this would obviously be a bad idea. I have weighed out 50mg with a reasonable sense of accuracy, however.

don't use a single beam balance if at all possible. it may have 10 mg graduations, but once you factor in reading error (you WILL read it wrong, trust) and systematic error you'll be off huge, maybe by 20-30%.
and digi's aren't all that accurate either. check this. i was weighing out some chromium compounds and needed extremely precise measurements. so i had to take a rough measurement on an electronic balance, then find the exact mass on an analytical balance - in this case a hopelessly archaic Swiss instrument that is extremely sensitive and damned difficult to read.
but this is what i got:
rough measurements: 0.37 g, 0.37 g, 0.24 g
(370 mg, 370 mg, 240 mg)
precise measurements: 0.3806 g, 0.3780 g, 0.2251 g
(380.6 mg, 378.0 mg, 225.1 mg)
the electronic balance was supposed to be what you would call "accurate to 10 milligrams"... and, i guess, it was (except for one case), but i was still kinda surprised at how off it was.
