Baking soda negativities? (Caused coughing for me)

tl;dr I'm coughing, I took baking soda today to see if it caused coughing, it did (for me).

I have been taking at least a gram of it along with my dexedrine/adderall.

But what surprised me were that it had one odd side effect that bothered me. It gave me an awful cough and the cough steadily worsened. I did not see a connection because its ludicrous right? Well heres what happened:

Got a bad cough thought it was from smoke around me.
Stopped Dexedrine for a while (a week).
I had been taking codeine during that week for the cough and my doctor told me it was just mucus from my nose going into my throat. I thought it was more serious and didn't think twice about it. I tried all sorts of cures: tea with honey, lots of water, etc.

My dad told me to drink vinegar, which was why I stopped the Dexedrine. It seemed to help and then during the last few days I decided to take Dexedrine again. It didn't have any effect so I decided to try with baking soda. It got me really high and I noticed I started coughing again, much stronger. I didn't want to kill the amphetamine high, so I let it go. I tried again today, and it did the same thing again. Has anyone else had this experience before?

Baking soda is not meant to be taken this way. It is a false and dangerous myth that it helps any kind of productivity. Baking soda "loading" actually causes many side effects and makes you perform worse than you would have had you not taken it.

Huh? Baking soda will dramatically reduce amphetamine clearance via urine. Baking soda will also increase the speed at which oral amphetamine is absorbed, and can even give a 'rush' with oral use. It makes the effects last longer, and stronger, to take baking soda with the amphetamine.

^Oh, I didn't realize it did all that, too. I have heard of, in athletics, of people using it for increased performance, so I assumed, wrongly, that this is why she was using it. Thanks for the info about interacting with amphetamine, I've never heard it that I can remember.

Still, though... baking soda "loading" (same concept, either intent), is not a safe practice.

BollWeevil, could you expand? What negative experiences have you anecdotically found in users of baking soda with their drugs as a potentiator?

I don't know too much about using as a potentiator for stimulants. When I was exposed to it, it was called "soda loading" and was done by athletes trying to get a boost in performance. I don't know what doses they or you are using in or how they rate relative to overdoses, but that is the danger that I was speaking of from "soda loading".

Oh there is actually scientific basis on it! It is used to lower the lactic acid in your body, and is used for high intensity low time activities!
