why do i get terrible what feel like full withdrawal symptomes from 2-3 days of realativly low doses of oxy, were talkin 45-60mg max per day in a single session, this is ususally after a week or so of being clean. has my body just slowly developed this reaction from my long term weekend use aprox 2 years.

I'll be thrown into having little to moderate WDs from a handful of days of opioid use (where I would be getting high). I think it has to something with keeping up a on off again relationship where your body isn't totally used to being 100% of opioids. I couldn't imgaine the WDs being to intense, though I noted if your mind is pretty in a bad place, it can be 10x worse than the physical issues making the WDs alot more intense than you'd think for the doses/time

I think its all in your head. You spend those 2-3 days beforehand worrying about just how bad your w/d are gonna be so of course you think they''re bad. More time you think about something and obsess over it...

Honestly how much time do you spend reading about w/d? I'd wager a lot but maybe i'm wrong.

Why not try having a longer break? Take a month off completely and you should still be able to use recreationally. However you should never use more than 2 days in a row as i'm guessing at those doses you've been using for a while and once you have suffered withdrawals once they likely come back after more than 2 straight days usage.

I usually use then take a few days off before using again. I rarely even use 2 days in a row.

P.S in my opinion they aren't that low a dose you are taking. 15mg Oxy gets me high.

45-60mg a day is a pretty large dose. and taking only a week break is not long enough. Take a longer break at least a month, and see how you feel afterwards.

How long do they last? How intense? Are you drinking too? Do you chip during the week too? How high does that get you?

Kinda curious. I've done the weekend warrior thing, and never really had that big a problem. Seems like there's other factors here.

If you have ever been addicted/dependent on opioids before, then any significant use, even after you're been detoxed and clean for periods of over a year, will bring on moderate-severe withdrawal. Even 45mg/day for two to three days is a significant use. You're withdrawal symptoms would be stronger than those that someone who was opioid naive would suffer if they took same dose (and somehow it didn't make them sick or OD) for the same amount of time.

This is one aspect of why addiction to opioids is considered a "progressive" disease - use after prolonged periods of abstinence will cause similar symptoms (both in terms of cravings and w/d) as those you experience when you first detoxed.

Although your symptoms upon beginning to use your DOC again will be worse than they would for someone who never was dependent, it would be wrong to assume they will be just as bad as they were when you were first addicted/dependent - for instance you won't really have any tolerance to speak of, or at least the tolerance you had while actively addicted; of course your withdrawal after using for 2-3 days shouldn't be as bad as they might have been after using for more than a month or something.

Really????That sucks!!!!

I used low doses (around 150mg DHC) for a month or so everyday. Finally shifted the withdrawals. But i wont use more than 2 days in a row anymore as i am not dealing with that again! I felt like i had to use everyday so i didnt feel like death. I'm much happier now. I can use when I like, which is how it should be.

You need to take a longer break to allow your body to adjust to functioning without opiates. I went from using 4-5 days a week down to 2 days a week, but since I didn't take a long break first I never fully detoxed. After 3 days of not using withdrawals would occur, I would use again, and the cycle would continue.

As time goes on the amount that you need to use to cause withdrawals gets less and less. In the beginning it would take a few months of using 4-5 days before experiencing real withdrawals, but the more it happened the less I needed to cause withdrawals. I think that from using over the years the body learns to operate with opiates in the system so much that even after long breaks it only needs a few days of using to transition to 'opiate mode' which means withdrawals when stopping and transitioning back to operating without opiates. Of course the higher doses are a factor too, and even though you may think that 45-60mg is a low dose of oxy, think about how low of a dose you were taking when you first started.

i find oxycodone to be different than other opiates in terms of withdrawls...it seems they are easier to get with lower usage (as compared to heroin, fentanyl, etc.)....however this is just imo

thanks for all the input, i agree with all of you. in my initial experiences i was using 15 mg to get rocked... that led to 30 and so on to the doses described above. i have always been an on again off again user always oraly unless i got ahold of opana then intra nasal because the boosted ba. this is what really stumps me on my tolarance, in this past week i used 60mg sat, went 3 days did 45mg, which got me really high, went 3 days and got mild withdrawl, then got ahold opana 40 er, railed half that this sat, with no euphoria...followed that with the other 15 mg the next morning ( stupid i know) again no real high, did the other 5mg the next afternoon after work cause i felt like shit mild withdrawls again, felt progressily better over the past two days. i just never new sporadic doses could create such withdrawals, but withbsuch strong drugs i guess it should be expected. thanks again! how do i lower my now obviously high tolerence, is time the only answer?

i do also drink daily, 2-4 craft beers, somtimes whiskey, 2-3 drinks, and im a heavy pot smoker. i use benzos only for anxiety, self medivate, no script, no insurance

i do try to slowly reduce my dosage as seen in the opana above, my with drawl symptomes seem to peak at 3 days with oxy, two with opana, neverbeen truley addicted in my opinion, others may disagree. i do understand lower doses after higher doses are not going to provide as much of an affect, im just suprised at how my body reacts compared to others in my circle!

So 60mg of Oxy is a high dose. Man oh man, you would probably think I'm a monster with what I used to take. I've told the story before, so I'm not going to go into great detail but I was taking between 360 - 400mg of Oxycontin for about two years. I was forced into withdrawal due to some unfortunate circumstances and I thought I was going to die. That probably last 2-3 weeks and over the next 3-6 months I got normal. After that, I turned to exercise and proceeded to lose 65 pounds over the next year. That was probably the only good news that came of that year and a half. So, I can concur that Oxy withdrawals are definitely the pits and suck beyond belief!

sr53137: please edit your post if you'd like to add to it instead of making three consecutive posts, what we fondly refer to in the forum world as "triple posting." Frowned upon it is (makes more scrolling necessary, among other ocd concerns of mine).

It BLOWS my mind when I hear about people taking 400mgs of oxycodone. I mean, I totally get it. There was a time it seemed (caveat) like no dose of heroin up my nose would kill me (OF COURSE there was a dose that could, but it wasn't less than 5gram of the relatively good dope I was doing in a day...). So yea, I can't really look down on people who do that with their oxy ;) Never again, that's all I can say.

No worries OP, just passing along some friendly advice :)

Umm, to early for what? To use again and avoid serious w/d?

Four days is in all likelihood not nearly enough time of a break to avoid w/d symptoms. I have hear someone say that 4 days between uses is the minimum you must wait to keep from becoming dependent, but I'm not so sure that is nearly enough time. A week would be significantly better.

4 days is way to short of a break if you have not properly detoxed first. If you want to take the bare minimum break to lower your tolerance and break the cycle of physical dependence I would say wait 10 days, and once you use again keep it to 1 day a week, and never more than 2. You can't get by this without putting in some work and having some control. As toothpastedog said 4 days between uses is probably the shortest you can wait between uses to avoid physical dependence, but it only works if you first take a longer break.

how do i lower my now obviously high tolerence, is time the only answer?

Time, and frequency in which you use are the basic answers.

Step 1: Take a break from using any opiates
Step 2: When you start using again, keep it to no more than once a week
Step 3: Only use you favorite opiates

Your tolerance will be lower after taking a break, but if you start using too frequently it will end up being close to right back where it was. I say to only use your preferred opiates because if you are chasing a high with an opiate that you don't find to be that euphoric you will be raising your tolerance for no reason. This has happened to me before with morphine. Since I don't find it to be that euphoric I end up taking high doses when chasing a high from them, so the dose of morphine that I end up taking is equivalent to a way higher dose of oxycodone that I need to get high off of.

The same thing happens to me with fentanyl and oxymorphone since I also find them to be less euphoric that oxycodone which is my favorite recreational opiate. By the time I reach a dose that I can get a nice high off of, I have surpassed the equivalent dosage of oxycodone by a decent amount, so I increased my tolerance without achieving as good of a high as I get from oxycodone.

The level of euphoria that we feel from opiates is subjective so it varies from person to person. I'm sure that you have a favorite opiate so I suggest only getting high when you can get that one or maybe your second favorite too, and keep the days that you get high few and far between. After your tolerance drops from taking a break you can hopefully keep it lower.
