i own a bar in the philippines. i can't control my drinking anymore. i won't drink at all for 4 or 5 days but when i do drink, i drink too much. i say many stupid things. this drunkeness leads to drug use. my wife's brothers are here and they are users of shabu (i guess it's like crystal?). we also use marajuana. i always end up using drugs when i get very drunk. i spend way too much money also. i'll wake up in the morning and be confused as to where my money went. i need to stop everything. there's no way my business can succeed if i spend so much money on useless things. we live at our bar though. should i go into rehab or is it reasonable to try to quit drinking while living in a bar? there are no aa meetings on this island (bohol). any advice would help.

If the habit has become uncontrollable I would advice to go into rehab, but if you have will power and you can conteol your drinking then try to do it. Since you have a business why not focus more on making the business better instead of drinking or doing drugs? It is easier said than done but just think of how much you eill lose if you continue the addiction. Dont wait until this happens. Merry xmas op

my advice is, abstain from alcohol (if you have no control over your ability to not drink alcohol, i would recommend not working at a bar if that is possible for a while until you have self control, or you could do activities that help quit the need for drinking to excess like regular exercise/eating healthily/meditation or prayer)

from my perspective it seems that when you do drink, alcohol lowers your inhibitions, which leads to consuming more alcohol than you would have planned, and then you use meth (shabu is methamphetamine in pill form from what i understand) or weed (less destructive than alcohol)

how positive is the impact alcohol has on your life? you can own a bar and not drink

Have you tried to stop drinking totally? It may be possible whilst running a bar but I guess it will difficult.

My instinct says that if you need to stop drinking then living surrounded by it 24/7 isn't going to make it very easy.

Perhaps it's time you evaluate how much alcohol matters to you?

I have no idea how well you can control your drinking, but it sounds like you do it regardless of the negative consequences that come as a result of it. If this is the case, I would take a good long look at how much you think you need it, and perhaps try to just stay away from it if at all possible. It may be difficult since you own a bar, but it's hardly impossible.
