Backyard Vegetable Gardening & Livestock Raising & Sustainable Living

I got the ghost peppers as a mature plant. I think growing them as seedlings is pretty easy but germinating the seeds is a bitch. Same with the scorpions. We grew all the others from seed though the only ones that had a low germination rate were the habeneros. I have had the same problem with lemon aji's too (C.Baccatum) but eventually got a few up. I've really been wanting to grow some rocotos but so far the only pack of seeds Ive had didnt germinate- its shame because you cant buy the fruit over here- really wanted to make chilles rellenos with them. I will need to take extra measures next time- seed soaking and a better humidity dome.

from what i understand, from other forums i belong to, the super hots take a while to germinate. They also don`t grow as fast as other peppers. The key to quicker germination, and this applies to most peppers is bottom heat. My set up works quite well. I didn`t grow any super hots this year but the lemon drops have been real slow sizing up. I have peppers set on on many of the 15 or so varietys of other peppers. I have the lemons in a cold frame still but will put in 5 gallon buckets so if they don`t produce before cold weather i can try to overwinter one or two... Yellow scorps interest me... I hadn`t heard of them before.

Our mint does us just fine. Our figs, however, are beyond all description. No pics because we eat them to fast.

i had bacon wrapped figs with bleu cheese vinagrette at noche last night. they were incredible, the rest of the meal was pretty terrible. save me some figs, dammit!!!!!

come over and get some figs & okra for j.

we're contacting you like this because we have no phones.

another cool site... Thanks...
I`m just too cheap to buy plants... I buy a packet of seed for about the same price as a plant. Plus it gives me something "gardeny" to do when nothing else is going on here...

i fried up some okra from ken and panders garden a couple of nights ago.

it was delicious.

my eggplants are starting to go off and i'll be eating cherry tomatos by the end of the weekend.

good! i'm really glad! we're starting to get speckled romas and mortgage lifter tomatoes. our eggplants are coming in, i need to get our canning bro over and teach me how to can some sauces, otherwise we'll be drowning in tomatoes just like we're drowning in okra.

my little garden patch is starting to catch up, i think. still a little stunted from my late start.

i have a bunch of little tomato seedlings sprouting from last year's cherry tomatoes (most probably). gonna just leave them to grow.

still don't really have the energy. good thing i didn't make a bigger patch than i did last year.

we are so far behind you guys... I wont have ripe maters for a month. I however do have some killer garlic... Peas just finished, lettuce is about done. Have had a few peppers, baby potatoes, and baby carrots... Beets are only a few days from being ready to pull...
