Avoiding low dose opiate addiction

Hello,

New member here, please forgive me if this is in the wrong forum.

Getting to the point..

About a month ago someone i know had a tooth infection and subsequently had that tooth pulled. The dentist gave him a total of 54 7.5/500 hydrocodones. After the pain wore off, this person noticed that he feels a nice buzz and small euphoria from just 1 pill. This person had been taking 1 pill a day when he was out of pain and did this for about 10 days straight. He then feared getting addicted and quit for 2 weeks with no problems. So he began taking 1 pill a day again and has been doing this for 5 days in a row now.

My question for this guy is, is opiate addiction even possible from such a low dose? If so, how long would it take? And, what's the best way to enjoy the little buzz without becoming addicted?

This person realizes this is a very small problem (and probably pretty "lame" compared to others situations) but is genuinely worried about possible long term consequences!

It's possible of course, but most likely the withdrawal symptoms would be minimal if he has been using it for relatively short periods. What he'll have to keep eyes out for is when 1 pill doesn't give him a buzz any more and he starts to build a tolerance, which is usually the first sign of a dependency forming.

Thank you for your response. This guy must be really weak huh? I'm actually relatively educated on pharmaceuticals (though, perhaps not compared to this audience). I've never heard of someone getting a high off of 7.5mg hydrocodone.. but he feels warm, uninhibited, and unusually social.

So the best way to enjoy the remainder of the pills would be to keep a lookout for the disappearing euphoria. If that happens, take a break for a couple weeks?

I work with a couple people that can get a buzz of 5mg hydro and feels really good off 5mg oxy which would be pretty much the same as 7.5 hydro. Some people (myself included) tend to be sensitive to certain meds. Almost a year ago I got high from 10mg hydro and to this day I still only use 17.5mg of hydro or 10-12.5mg oxy and I use 1-2 times a month with a little kratom in between.

Withdrawal is likely to be minimal and not too noticeable.

The real concern is regular opioid abuse. Fist it's 7.5g/day, then 15mg, and before you know it your sucking dick for a hit of heroin in the jugular cuz you blew out the rest of your veins shooting dope with dirty, HIV infected needles.

That's how it starts man, no judgement here, I've been in your shoes before.

Tolerances are such peculiar things. Not going to bother reiterating what everyone else already said.

LOL.

lol nice.

This person took a break since this thread just to see if he was dependent on the low dose and noticed no withdrawal symptoms (perhaps some slight agitation day two.. but then again, agitation is reality lol) and it's been like 5 days. He wants to try 15mg (two 7.5/500's) next time he does it.

However, this person is scared of taking 2 pills at once because he's not only a pansy but has never used anything recreationally before except alcohol.

I've learned he's been taking .5mg clonazepam 2x daily for 10 years and also 40mg paxil daily for 10 years. Are there dangers in combining these with hydrocodone?

This person isn't going to take any for at least 2 weeks so he doesn't build up a tolerance and become dependent.

Thoughts on 15mg? (yes, real question, this person is a giant pansy)

Having a low tolerance does not make you/your friend a 'giant pansy' id say it makes you extremely fortunate.

A giant pansy? More like extremely fortunate and smart to not let a tolerance even begin to build itself.

This person also has an endless supply of tramadol. I've searched the boards but can't find any comparisons comparing the feeling to that of hydros. Can anyone compare the two? An endless supply of tramadol figures to be better than a limited supply of hydros.

Also this person is on Paxil so the seizure threshold would be worrisome.

and serotonin syndrome.

Paxil and tramdol is not a good combo.

They work on similar neurotransmitter receptors.

Besides siezures and seritonin syndrone there are a lot of other adverse side effects that can happen.

Tell your friend to talk to his dr about the safety of these drugs. It can be quite dangerous.

And as to tolerance, a low tolerance is a magical thing that opiate users pray to have again. I would brag about how low my tolerance is. On that same note, tolerance can climb really fast and some people never go down again. Some people a few days a week a month and your back to your baseline.

Be careful.

Also opiates are like a immature rebel friend. You like your friend and think they are the best (honeymoon phase). You have lots of fun and think you can not get caught up in anything bad (denial). Then sometime soon you have fights with your friend and try to make up (high tolerance). Then one day your friend disappears (no more opiates), So what do you do when you cant find your friend? You miss them so much you go to the streets and do something really stupid like asking a out of uniform cop if they know where your friend is (addiction w/ sourcing). Now your in jail hating your friend.

Great analogy right there. He's got about 20 or so left. Hasn't done any since the OP of this thread. I figure he'll probably do a couple every couple of weeks and just enjoy what he has left. Seems like the most reasonable thing to do.
