"Average" methadone dosing?

I've just switched from 24 mg bupe to (thus far) 60mg methadone - is this a reasonable conversion? And what is a "regular" dosing range for methadone?

S

Most people level out between 80-100mg of methadone.

It does have the tendency to have you feeling a little off at the end of the day and in the morning before dosing but you should be alright once you find your comfort level.

My advice as a long term methadone user is to not go any higher in your dose than you need to to feel okay. You will never be able to get any higher even though it makes you feel like you are almost there. Raising your dose beyond what you need will make it that much harder to taper down later and won't help you any.

Don't give in to the temptation to relapse either.....once you get to 60-80mg you won't be able to get anything at all out of other opiates so it is just a waste of time and can screw you over in the process.

I wish you well, take it seriously and it can be a life saver.

Well for me personally it could have been because I was doing a lot of heroin for 2-3 months before I got on it but I am at 130 mg, once I got to 130 I found it holds me all day till I go in to dose the next morning. I was worried I was always gonna feel shitty at night/in the morning and I was worried about going up so high but Im glad I finally found a dose that took away all cravings and lasts me till the next morning, which is what you ideally want to get, but you also dont want to go any higher than you feel comfortable with. For me since I plan on being on it for a long time I was comfortable with going up this high.

idk but whern I switched to bupe from 45mg of methadone it only took 8mg's of bupe to hold me. not sure about the other way around

I want to taper down as far as I can on done before I make the switch to subs......

How far can one taper down before the done isn't enough to keep WD at bay? I would like to get down to at least where I was when I last dropped off (10-20mg/day) if not lower so I can take as little sub as I can.......I want to be on that just long enough to be able to quit altogether.....

I don't completely understand. Are you asking how far you can go down before you start feeling the withdrawals? If so, I'd say at about 10mg withdrawals will start to kick in. They are significant once you get down to 5mg and once your off then well...don't like it.

You got the question right. I have never taken less than 10mg/day unless it was 0 so I wasn't sure if you could taper any lower.....

I imagine I will try to get down to 10-15mg before switching to subs. I just don't want to be on subs any longer than I really need to so I would like to be able to start with the smallest possible dose that will work.

I am already dreading even the couple of days of methadone WD required to make the switch. I would rather cut off my right arm than feel done WD again but it's not like I will be able to avoid it completely....

Thanks for all the help
