Automatic VS Manual

I can hardly find an automatic car in US.
Automatic or manual, text and driving is definitely one of the things that will go wrong in a matter of time.
We see these sort of news all the time.

False sense of safeness is a good point

Texting and driving with smartphones is more difficult... The old ones with a keypad was way easier since the middle '5' button had a bit of a notch to it... I got to the point where I didn't even have to look down and I would still have my message typed out reasonably well.... Can't do that anymore, gotta keep looking up and down every few seconds which is way more dangerous

True. Basic statistics..It´s not if it happens more likely when it will.

for my own car: manual because
i don't want to pay extra for automatic
it uses up less petrol
it provides more control and doesn't randomly shift at inconvenient situations
it's a lot better on snow/ice

but on holiday when i have to navigate a foreign terrain, look for signs and maybe drive on the wrong side of the road automatic is much more convenient. and i sure enjoy the comfort of not having to shift gears then. still the negatives of automatic outweigh the positives for my own vehicle.

I guess this will depend on where you are, and how old the car is.
