Authorities make string of underage drinking arrests from Facebook photos

LOL couldn't every one of them just say they filled empty beer/vodka/whatever bottles with water or other benign liquid and took photos to seem 'cool' to their peers? I mean it isn't that plausable a defence but what happened to "beyond reasonable doubt"? Theres a lot of posers out there! Surely they must have more evidence? What a waste of taxpayers money!

Haha since when was it that stupid to post pictures of drunken debauchery on facebook when you're in high school? That could even earn you some cool points. :D

Isn't underage drinking just a ticket or something anyways? I wasn't under the impression that people got 'arrested' for that, as the title of the article might suggest.

I don't know man, putting up photos of anything illegal is stupid IMO. Especially if you're a minor that presumably lives with their parents/guardians.

that's a waste of police resources sure, but how stupid are people. Granted, this isn't surprising considering I know many people that do the exact same thing, but you have to be a special kind of stupid to not think you might get in trouble (like the kind of stupid a girl is when she believes doing a porn shot will stay on the one website and not go everywhere on the internet)

Thank god I live in Canada, hell our parents were buying us the liquor at 16. As long as you didn't start shit wiht the cops they'd let you go or take you home. Soon as you started giving them attitude it was a night in the tank and a $300 fine.

Very true. It just seems like almost every single underage kid does that to some degree, at least when I used to use facebook.

You can make your account private so that only friends can view your posts, pictures, etc. Or you can customize it so only certain people can view what stuff you have on your page and what not. There are options. The problem was, these kids had there profiles open to the whole world. That's where they went wrong.

See, I've heard that cops have special privileges given to them by facebook/myspace admins to have open access, just like the admins themselves have.

Could be urban legend, but it also makes some sense to me.

I doubt that cops have special access. I have a feeling that if they did, it would be common knowledge. Also, that would certainly be a blow to those sites' popularity. Not that you should need something like that for you be cautious.

As for making them private and only viewable to certain people... well that's still not a solution. They can be saved and redistributed by those people.

Yeah, in high school a girl who was jealous cause she didn't make captian of the dance squad did a screen cap of the girl who got it's myspace that had pictures of her drinking and saying nasty things about certain teachers and e-mailed it to the squad moderator.

It was a few years ago so I don't remember what happened, but I know that it was big drama and people got worried that someone could do it to them.

I agree with phrozen. I doubt that cops have special administrative privileges to Facebook. That wouldn't make sense. The owners of Facebook wouldn't be obligated to give them any administrative access.

You are right though phrozen about having something be saved and redistributed but the cops would need to have some sort of relationship with someone that you are friends with in order to get that redistributed and saved material such as pictures.

I can't remember of find where I heard the info about cops and special access, but a gogle search led to several sites that provide "hacking" software so that anyone can view private profiles.

Not trying to bust your balls, but wouldn't you think that would be illegal then because it was received in an illegal manner?

Been "arrested" for it :|

srsly, do people get arrested just becuz they do alcohol? thats the most fucked up stupid thing i ever heard:|

yeh thats some pretty scarry shit when will u yankee doodles pick up ur pistols and start a ReVolution?

funny that in France children drink wine with meals from a very early age and yet there are less alcohol problems, prehaps its like cannabis when you make things illegal they become more attractive to teenagers.

American kids get tasered and beaten for underage drinking sometimes.

I laughed at the title of this.. come on.. seriously? lol, i agree there idiots for putting incriminating pictures of themselves up on the internet.. but for the cops to track them down, hooray for the HEROES of tomorrow!
