Some of you may of heard of this recently formed political party for those of you that haven't here is their website http://www.sexparty.org.au Take some time to look through their policies and political ideals.

At this point they have not established a policy with regards to drug reform; however I can assure you that they are currently gathering information and ideas to establish such a policy. The basic foundation of the policy will be of harm minimisation, needle exchange programs, safe injecting rooms AND to look at decriminalisation of some drugs.

If you have some thoughts or ideas for establishing a policy such as this either email the Sex Party directly or post your thoughts on this thread.

Feel free to discuss possible drug policy. But please don't just make this thread another legalize it all bruuuuu! Or i'll be forced to close this shit down.
 
Sameria: Ha ha that would be nice but political suicide.

1. Decriminalization of personal use amounts of all drugs, akin to Portugal.

2. Injecting rooms in all states.

3. Reform of drug education to put more focus on harm reduction.

4. Remove barriers to scientific research into compounds, i.e. make it easier for scientists to obtain scheduled substances for research.

5. The creation of a new schedule for all these legal highs that are coming out, and rather then just outright banning them looking into their actual safety and dangers before banning them.

That's all I got for now, I just woke up though.
 
I agree with 2, 3, and strongly with 4. Decriminalization I don't understand enought to give a comment.

5. They should look at all drugs as well.
 
^ Maybe the creation of a personal use amounts schedule would be interesting; a schedule that defines how much you can possess without being punished/arrested and receiving a conviction.

Check out the decriminalization scheme in Portugal it's fairly interesting. :)
 
Yeah small amounts shouldn't be crimnal. No more sniffers at festivals and clubs.
Make testing information on street drugs available.
Provide services to clean and test drugs that u bring in.
Legalise and tax marijuna
reform drug education and schools to provide real information.

The liberal democratic party www.ldp.org.au is also developing a harm minimisation drug policy including the legalising of marijuna.

Just had a look at the sex party website and agree with most their policies but they haven't outlined any economic policies at all and i disagree with their equal numbers of men and women in parliament policy.
 
Yeah I agree with you skatkid with what you said about a place for testing drugs. What Holland has in regards to testing Ecstasy is such a good idea.
 
exactly. have facilities where someone can bring in their substance and have it tested and results published without fear of criminal charge. this would have the double effect of ppl knowing whether their drug is safe and whats in it while also providing a disincentive for dealers to sell shit. eg if its published yellow music notes have no mdma and are pips then dealers wont be able to move them and wont buy them
 
The sex party have some pretty good policy's as a rule.
Personally I think though, like the pirate party. By coming up with a ridiculous name that is meant to get people thinking about them. Instead they just get thought of as a joke or novelty party.

I must say, I think decriminalisation isn't a good idea. I think whilst it worked in Portugal it wouldn't work here, I think it would make the black market stronger then ever and probably increase gangland activity.

Legalisation or Prohibition are the only ways to make this Drug war work.

I think they should bring more attention to how widespread drug use is becoming in Australia, it seems to be on the rise more and more. A stronger school curriculum in the field of drug use/abuse is whats in need.

Whole heartadly agree with these three. ESPECIALLY 4. I think it's ludacris for the government to decide that because a drug has no use they can see they shouldn't let ANYONE try. The recent not psychological LSD trials prove this.

I have no doubt that their is pharmacutical uses for Mariujana, LSD and MDMA. Scientists should have the freedom to try and find out what other drugs have uses and then it should be upto Doctors to implicate them rather then the government deciding what patients do and do require.
 
Well the ridiculous name as u put it gives them attention and highlights there goals and helps them best achieve it. If they had some other more acceptable name they would get less attention then they do now. And the ppl most likely to vote for them (young progressive) would think it's a great name.
The greens get elected based on a single issue name.

As for decriminalize at least it allows some proper harm minimization approaches to be put in place and stops ruining the lives of users who are undeserving with a criminal record. Also clears up some court, jail and police resources so whilst not as good as legalization, it's a step in the right direction
 
Heh I was just reading through the Sex Party's policies on the website.

Ending the tax exempt status for religions. - As much as I agree with this it pretty much guarantees the Sex Party won't get anywere.

Most of the good points I can think of have already been mentioned here. Everything apart from more laxed legislation of using illicit drugs for spiritual or religious reasons.
 
Tax exemptions for religions should be ended. We have science now beat it religion

mmm. that's what I thought, I was after opinions about drug reform in Australia so I thought this would be the most appropriate place to put it.
 
Yep, social is not the place for Drug reform topics. There is a couple of politics threads floating around though, anyone is welcome to start threads (but not drug related ones).

Thought there would be a thread pop up today about the PM job. Maybe we need a mega politics thread.

Have the Sex Party got a drug policy? Until they have I see no value in this thread apart from a social one. If you have thoughts on how the party should view drug use/legislation, try contacting them through their website.
