FEDERAL police have shattered the Australian arm of an international crime network, seizing nearly a quarter of a tonne of the drug ice.

In raids carried out by the Australian Federal Police in Sydney and Perth, 239 kilograms of methamphetamine - or ice - worth $50 million was seized in the biggest ice bust the nation has seen.

It was the latest in a huge run for the AFP, which has seized more than 1.8 tonnes of drugs in less than 12 months as Australia has become an increasing target for transnational gangs.

I still don't see how meth could cost 95,000 a lb. Its not like they were smuggling it into the country most likely. But yea his whole town is finally gettin some sleep now.
 
^I'm sure that value is the st. value, not per lb. Which would be 200/gram or so, I've never been to Australia but apparently drugs are expensive there.
 
^^ Where a gram of mdma can sell for $200+ dollars im not suprised at the price in australia, but they always do inflate things for the "big bust", seems some europeans were setting up a nice little link
 
love it when tweekers are failed. that shit has wrecked so many around me. no great loss as any of it's addicts out of circulation are no loss to society. too mental to form rational decisions re: meth abuse= no redeeming value to society.
 
Meth can sell for up to $100/0.1g here, so while the numbers are probably still inflated (they always seem to inflate the street values of busts), the number is still going to be a lot higher than it would be if this bust took place somewhere else.
 
Why is Australia so flooded with meth?? Why doesn't Australia have a opiate problem like the rest of the developed world?? im just wondering..

I don't think Australia is particularly flooded with ANYTHING. They have very strict customs procedures, and.. well, it's Australia, they don't produce much of anything, they have to import it all. That price could be perfectly accurate on a street / dose scale. Just from what I've seen down under folk post here, shit gets heavily stepped on, no matter what crystal / powder you are talking about

There'll be plenty more where that came from. For every shipment that gets seized, many more go undetected. A few large meth busts happened recently here in New Zealand... but it hasn't impacted the market. Last time I scored it took me less than ten minutes. :)

That's not entirely correct, there are lots of drugs in Australia; in fact Australia had the highest per capita use of mdma in the world for years. Most meth is produced locally.
Australia also does have a huge opiate problem, especially in the early 2000s Melbourne was flooded was heroin, even known as a heroin capital of the world.
 
^yeah I know drugs are there, but don't 'E' pills go for like 40 a piece? I thought generally speaking all ausi drug prices were super inflated because of a lack of supply / difficulty in obtaining. *shrug* definitely not my neck of the woods so I gotta take your word

(I'd be surprised if Melbourne beat New Jerszy for heroin capital of the world though hehe)
