Australian Jail Rapes...?

OK so as the title of the thread asserts, this thread is about being rapped in Australian jails.

Now what I'm wondering is, do people get rapped in Australian Jails as I've been told by numerous parties that it just doesn't happen over here in Australia unless you're; a pedophile, a rapist, a child molester, a homosexual or something along those lines.

I know overseas that rape is very common as they use it as the highest form of assault against somebody in jail, is it like that over here as what I've heard it just doesn't usually happen.

Can I get some people opinions who have actually been to jail or actually work within the correctional system? No offence but I probably won't take you seriously if you've just 'heard' rumours....

Anyways I look forward to seeing how this discussion turns out.

pisspotnrock, I'm not going to jail. I've just heard mixed things from people, everyone I speak to who has done a bit of time reckons it doesn't really happen unless the things I previously mentioned meet the persons characteristics...

Hang on, the wording here implies that you're after first hand accounts of people who have been raped whilst in an Australian correctional facility.
Do you really think if someone has been raped that they will share that with you here when you seem to be so flippant about what is in actual fact a rather sensitive issue.

Prison here is different to what you have seen in American History X, our prisons aren't overcrowded in the way that US prisons are. There are less opportunities for people to be raped but it does happen.

No offence, but I probably can't take you very seriously when you want to discuss rapping in jail. Unless of course youd prefer to discuss Terrence Howards performance in Hustle & Flow?

I would have liked to of had this venture towards a more serious conversations, but it looks as though it's not going to happen. I just wanted to hear peoples input on the subject...

If you have information could you just PM me and talk, I just want to see what it's like in the Australian correctional facilities... I know they are pretty violent and what not but I have not really heard of anybody being rapped to cause the highest assault against a person.

this is not first hand as I have not been to jail, nor have I been raped. However, when I was doing my undergrad in criminology a former armed robber turned academic spoke about his experience in a high security prison.

He said it never happened to him but that he put on a tough front. He said occassionally it happened to the weaker and less popular (or dispised) prisoners. Though he said by far most of the sex in prison was consentual.

He was in prison a while ago, so maybe things have changed.

Yeah it can happen but the best way to avoid it is just keep your head down and really only talk when people come and speak to you. Blending in is about the best way tobe in general pop. And just don't be seen as a target as mentioned, 'weak'.
 
What about if the other inmate wants it bad but just doesn't know it yet? That not rape, it's just the nature of prison sex. I'm sure Johnny Cash wrote a song about it.
