Aussies snort super-addictive 'Ivory Wave'
Australians are experimenting with a powerful new mind-altering drug that is so addictive users say it provokes an almost uncontrollable urge for another hit.

Australian drug users are ordering Ivory Wave through research chemical websites based in Europe, which disguise the drug's true identity by selling it as a "soothing bath salt".

Tests at the University of Sydney revealed the drug, called Ivory Wave, contained a potent psychoactive chemical similar to ecstasy.

Australian Federal Police told ninemsn the drug was believed to be illegal under Australia's analogue drug laws and its importation was currently being investigated.

Ivory Wave is sold in 500mg packets labelled "for novelty use only" with no dosage instructions.

An anonymous Ivory Wave user from Newcastle told ninemsn the powder was several times stronger than cocaine when snorted.

"[It] provides profound stimulation and empathy, as well as mild, yet blissful, euphoria," he said.

However, he said the initial "magic" diminished rapidly, leaving the user strongly compelled to snort again.

"I've never seen an opened packet last more than a night, and have seen the 'but your line is bigger' arguments start," he said.

The user said the intense high left a painful hangover.

"[Users experience] emotional fragility, diminished cognitive ability, muscular pain and a sore jaw and loss of appetite," he said.

The user interviewed by ninemsn said he and his friends had ordered the drug several times through post from overseas and had not encountered any problems with customs.

A small sample of the drug obtained by ninemsn and analysed by researchers at the University of Sydney was found to contain a mix of several substances, including the chemical methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV).

The legal status of MDPV is unclear but it is most likely banned under Australia's analogous drug laws due to its structural similarities to pyrovalerone and MDMA — also known as ecstasy.

The companies that market Ivory Wave also sell other "bath salt" products, which are believed to contain similar ingredients.

University of Sydney Chemistry Professor Paul Groundwater warned that users of Ivory Wave could be putting their health at serious risk.

"Drugs for approved human use must meet very stringent criteria in terms of their manufacture," he said.

"These designer drugs have not been subjected to such scrutiny and so they may contain many harmful by-products as a result of their production."

Dr Groundwater and University of Sydney Professional Officer Bruce Tattam used forensic data from German police to identify the presence of MDPV in the compound.

The tests showed the drug was a mix that contained at least one other major component, but MDPV was the only identifiable chemical.

why can't Aussies and Kiwis (isn't that what people from NZ are called?) always using these weird ass research/new chemicals? Can't they just choose between being a dope head junkie that slams heroin or being a raging lunatic that uses normal stimulants.

But now MDPV will cop alot of the blame and lime-light from the media, and won't be as much of a grey-area for that substance i imagine

People seem to be turning to this research chemicals because no one can get any decent MDMA. The govs fucking us over and getting everyone hooked on untested shit cause thats all they can get into the country. Least with MDMA people know what they are taking and whats doing to themselves.

Theres a very good reason for this. Not so much for aussies, but for 'kiwis'. In NZ, because we are a secluded, small country, with only 4.5mil people, with EXTREMELY proficient customs/border control, drugs like cocaine and heroin, are not possible to be gotten ahold of here. Well, you can get them.. but, cocaine is about 200-400$ a gram, and heroin.. well, we can only get homebake, if your lucky. LSD is able to come by but im pretty sure its usually DOx or some other shit.

Its all just super awesome buds and meth here, and because of how much stigma meth has here(and why shouldnt it), most people who wanna do 'different' drugs, dont turn to that. They turn to 'legal highs' and what not. I turned to ethnobotanicals because im into psychedelics.. mushies and cacti and ayahuasca etc.

Also, because doctors are painkiller nazi's, and wont even hand them out in legitamite, obvious cases... they arent a possibility for most people. Your lucky if youve got a contact who can hook you up with hydros or diazepam or whatever.

No sources allowed! ...and definitely no links to them either!!

Time to legalize MDMA; its to late, new drugs will appear all the time, witch are way more dangerous than MDMA

MDPV is fine, but fuck taking some dodgy mix knocked out by some twunt who doesn't even take RCs and just wants mo moneh $$$$

mmmm PV. Tis my friend :)

I don't have personal experience with this drug but everyone I know who does it claims of a BAD comedown. My friends compared the comedown to the feeling you get after doing cut to shit coke. I guess its just popular because of the relatively cheap cost and high availability....

I really think you overestimate the extent to which Aussies (I can't speak for kiwi's) are using RC's. Really most drug users I know have never heard of RC's let alone use them often.

Obviously there are pockets of users who are switched on to this sort of thing who will use it alot but it really is not the norm. The most used drugs in Australia are easily marijuana, the shite being passed off as "ecstasy" these days and methamphetamine.

I would be pretty interested to hear exactly what it is they are mixing with MDPV in this 'ivory wave' shit. It is pretty shit how these RC companies pass of these drug mixtures without actually stating exactly what is in them.

4-MMC is typically marketed online as "bath salts", so I assume that's what it is.
