Aussie Music. Awesome Local Bands yet to own a jet

tame impala - psychadelic rock outfit from perth. they're all like 18 or something... obviously been spending too much time listening to their dad's records.

they're wicked ... they do this cover of that blueboy-remember me track and it is the f'ing bombshizzle!
It's hard to reconcile their sound (older psych) to the way they look (18 year olds) but they are great.

That cover of remember me is what first got me interested but the B-side of the single is even better. All their stuff is good and their album is coming out soon.

Agree with the Kid Sam call, hoptis: good album.

great aussie bands

hands down, birds of tokyo and children collide are the best aussie rock bands out there at the moment, ive seen them a few times at different festivals around australia, they are very well known at the moment (worldwide) but i reckon in the years to come these are gunna be two of the most popular bands going around.

and on the topic of australian music, solo artist sarah blasko is just incredible.

If you like birds of tokyo you might enjoy karnivool too, same singer Ian Kenny. They released their 2nd album Sound Awake this year but to be honest I preferred their first Themata from a few years back.

^ agreed on sarah blasko! :D

Seekae are pretty cool. 3 man, IDM / experimental electronic. Sound a bit like Aphex Twin. Put on a great live show. Album is called The Sound of Trees Falling on People. I think they're from the Blue Mountains or something.

Bearhug are quite awesome. From Sydney. I don't think they're signed yet. They have a free EP for downloading on their myspace somewhere (posted in a blog entry I think). Sound a bit like Pavement or Deerhunter. http://www.myspace.com/bearhugtheband + http://www.triplejunearthed.com.au/Artists/View.aspx?artistid=25974.

Dappled Cities have been around for a while and are already fairly well known. But awesome, Australian band nevertheless. Zounds is a very solid album.

The John Steel Singers. From Brisbane. Great fun live. In Colour EP is so fucking good. http://www.myspace.com/thejohnsteelsingers + http://www.triplejunearthed.com/artists/View.aspx?artistid=9936 Listen to Rainbow Kraut.

Tame Impala. Antares, Mira, Sun is the name of their EP. Great live, etc.

Deep Sea Arcade are pretty catchy. http://www.myspace.com/deepseaarcade. Don't Be Sorry is a cool track.

First post .... ever!
I couldn't resist posting here though, seeing as how i'm a music NUT.

My picks right now:
Josh Pyke - Love this guy. He inspires me to write music :)
Bob Evans - Cute stuff.
Lisa Mitchell - I agree with all who have mentioned her, she's charming.
Gotye - Unique! Hope he is working on some new material.
Sarah Blasko - Beautiful!
Paul Dempsey - Hasn't got a mention in this thread yet! I find such value in his lyrics. And i'm seeing him next month - Woo!

There are so many great Aussie artists who melt my heart <3
