Aus - The $13 trick to get kids smoking

Good lord I could buy 2 packs at that price. Back when I smoked camel lights you could find two for one deals all over the place. Since they have taxed the hell out of them you don't see that deal anymore, but now I smoke Marlboro reds and they range like 6 to 7 per pack. Horrible disgusting habit and I really want to quit but with the weed Mmt and xanax its almost like cake without icing lol.

I have cut back tho ....one on the way to work. One or two on lunch break then one on the ride home from work. So a pack does me like a week.

I feel bad for Aussie pack a day smokers...talk about spending a small fortune. That's practically a really tiny dope habit in the states haha.

I felt drug euphoria from a few smokes for the first few days I smoked. It also does add to your life if you smoke situationally, like what was said above.

News flash: the government makes around twice the direct cost to the health system from tobacco in taxes in countries where they are heavily taxed. Add the money saved in pensions and long term old age care and you have a massively profitable addiction to sustain within the populace. They will never be taxed out of existence. True addicts won't stop and situational smokers will think of it as a pricy wine.

i cant comprehend paying $20 for a pack, i could go down to tijuana and get 2 cartons for that much

Dear God, what if they don't have enough money to smoke, and are forced to breathe air again?

Edit: to be clear, I find smoking tobacco to be pointless, disgusting, and health-compromising.
I also detest the trickery of the tobacco companies and the slant of the media and mainstream society that tell us the smoking tobacco is somehow "cool" or not very harmful or that tobacco is not really a drug.
It is clear that tobacco is one of the most harmful substances that people casually ingest (and this is made worse by the additives in the cigs).
Just as ... said above, if you don't pay taxes on the tobacco, you will pay in the end for health care, when hundreds of thousands of people can no longer breathe on their own and get heart disease, etc. I would rather have the addicts themselves pay for this, instead of me.
I am sufficiently wise not to smoke tobacco. (Though my wisdom in other areas may be suspect.)
So, I feel silly paying for people's anti-lung cancer chemo treatment, when they made the choice to smoke.
But, I see the great deceptive power of the tobacco lobby/industry, so I also feel sorry for smokers.

If cannabis caused similar health problems to a similar extent, I would also be happy to tax it.
But, since it is comparatively benign, I think that it is fair if cannabis taxes are far, far lower than tobacco taxes.

Vape tobacco or cannabis. Its a shame you can't do either here legally though.

This exactly (although I'm being a slight hypocrite, as I mentioned). I've known too many bong smokers who've ended up in hospital with collapsed lungs to be convinced that smoking weed isn't damaging to the lungs.

Yeah, it happened to me 7 odd yrs ago. My chest capacity has never been the same again. I'm a total hypocrite, it's taken me 6.5 yrs after to totally give up bongs/baccy.

Dur! Tobacco addicts pay for what they cost and much more. Even you reap the benefits from taking advantage of their addiction in terms of the tax revenue that pays for benefits or services provided by the government. The US may be a bit of an exception, but they still have to pay for their smoker's rate health insurance.

I actually like the idea of smoking tobacco out of a pipe on the odd occasion, but it would look so douchey :( sigh.
