Aus - Bra and packet of chips used to smuggle drugs into jail

A MAN who organised drugs to enter a Wacol prison while he was awaiting sentence for two Sunshine Coast home invasions has had another six months jail added to his sentence.

Benjamin Robert Collins, born in Warwick, is currently serving six and a half years jail for drug-fuelled break-ins at Doonan and Noosaville in 2012.

A week before he was sentenced in mid-2013, prison authorities recorded a phone call where Collins organised to have a morphine-based drug, often used to treat heroin withdrawal or as a painkiller, into the correctional facility.

Linda Lavaluthi Hambuechen, born in New Zealand, bought the drugs in sachets in her bra on May 25, 2013.

Hambuechen, 36, put the drugs into an open chip packet on a table and offered Collins, 25, some chips.

He then took the drugs and tried to secrete them near his groin but authorities watched the whole thing.

Judge David Reid said noted Hambuechen had anxiety and depression issues but said if she kept using drugs she risked losing the care of her three-year-old child.

He said Collins had a capacity to work and had strong family support but the sentence he handed down must be cumulative on the home invasion sentence.

Collins had already served 346 days in custody when he was sentenced in June last year so a full-time release date was set for December 22, 2018.

He would have been eligible for parole on August 24 this year but Judge Reid extended that until October 24 this year to reflect the drug supply charge.

I wonder what drug it was? Morphine based and a treatment for heroin addiction? Methadone is synthetic and so is suboxone so I don't know what they're talking about unless they're talking about diamorphine which is heroin itself. As far as his case goes, if he was in the US he would have gotten a much harsher sentence, an extra 6 months isn't so bad but drugs really shouldn't be illegal in the first place. Legalize all drugs and a lot of the problems that have been traditionally associated with drug use/abuse disappear. Legal issues are gone, overdose is greatly reduced due to consistant purity, drugs are much cheaper so addicts dont need to commit crime to fund their habits, they can actually focus on their lives, no dangerous cuts, etc. Lots of benefits there but im gonna get off my soapbox now.

It's probably methadone or suboxone. I wouldn't pay attention to the term "morphine-based" most journalists don't know shit when it comes to basic drug facts. Once in a UK article they said that dmt was "an ecstacy-like drug it makes you hallucinate". 8)

You'd have to be pretty crazy to blatantly attempt sneaking drugs into a jail or prison.
I know in my state they would have been fucked. I see people arrested all the time that get hit with extra charges for bringing drugs into jail when the cops dont find them during the search let alone smuggling them intentionally.

My vote goes with methadone or subs as well.

This is the only jail i've ever been into, I went to visit a cousin who was in there ages ago, me and my other cousin went to visit him. It's a fucking nightmare, just getting into the place was depressing as they went a bit over the top on the search of us I thought (but what can you do or say? These guys were big and mean) and then we chatted to my cousin who had attempted self harm which made it even worse then when we went to leave the whole place the guards were fuck wits and played games with us not opening some doors and laughing at us. I'd hate to be stuck in there with those guards and some of the sketchy looking people I saw in there.

Wacol is Wacko.

It would be suboxone strips, they come in little sachets like the article mentions. Buprenorphine is one of the many derivatives of thebaine, but all opiates are derived from morphine according to uneducated "reporters".

I guess these people now realise the phones in prisons are bugged.
