Audiophiles, show me your cans! (headphones that is)

Sennheiser HD-280 Pro, not the best, but can't be beat for the price

£20, amazing high end quality.

Come on, HIGH END? Some people would hesitate to call them decent.

Also, I see many people saying they have the best HP ever/"beating 3 times more expensive ones". Really? How many have you compared them to?

I don't mean to be rude, all I'm saying is use some common sense

^Those are definitely not high end, but Sennheiser makes some amazing products for the money. Even my Sennheiser HD-280 Pro's, which I would not consider high end, deliver great sound quality in the whole sound range, and cannot be beat in the <$100 market, imo. I certainly wouldn't say the HD-280's beat something 3 times its price, but there aren't any equally good headphones at an equivalent price, imo.

Just know that Sennheiser is a legit company that does not price gouge for quality. I'm not sure about the quality of the ones you commented on, however.

HD595 right now. They sound pretty good. I don't know whether the recordings are the issue or if its the headphones when something doesn't sound "crystal clear." My biggest focus though is the frequency response. IMO, frequency response has the greatest impact on the feel of a song because it can change dynamics, it can make things sound more open or closed, it can totally mask certain critical pieces of a song and it can cause fatigue. With that said, I'm a bit disappointed with the treble on these headphones, I feel like more treble could make music so much more excited. But as a whole, I could recommend them in good conscious and there are recordings that I think they're really great for.

Soundmagic E30 pretty much all the time for my laptop/phone.. currently 2nd pair... clumsy wire overstretch .. [WAY better wire than Sennheisier CX300-II's though in the comparative range I think.] Dont really use my desktop these days so I keep the Sennheiser HD555's under lock and key for now. Compound fracture on the right-side of the 'arc'... currently gorilla glued.. I'll upload a picture sometime, they're really messy and it upsets me a bit because I didnt take care of them when I got them ffs.

Yea Sennheiser is not really known for providing neutral sound. I found that on my HD 477s the mids really opened up from boosting the impedance and gain but I've heard shitty things about the internal design of the Senns up to the HD600 so that could be it. I'm really unimpressed with Senns on the whole. I've owned a few sets and the only reason I'm stuck listening to these 477s now is because the rest of them all f'n broke from years of wear. I haven't seen the HD 600s up close but it looks like they're the first to break the bad design mould of the 500 series. Well, I'm waiting on my tax return to finally buy a set of cans I've been looking at for a loooooong time :) I've got new op-amps for my soundcard so I'll be ready to test the shit out of them when they get here hehehe

Cool, I've been looking at the hd600 for a while too. I just think I'd like to hear them in person before I drop 400 bucks on a pair of headphones.

Which card / op-amps?

Yeah, I'm deffo partial to hearing cans before putting up funds too. From what I've seen in technical data the freq response is nicely emphasized in the low and high on the HD 600s. The Xonar STX is my soundcard, replacment op-amps are LME49720NA which I sourced from a local vendor. They make the mids more pronounced which is cool but I like the dark influence of the card's original op-amps (model # escapes me atm).
