Benzos ativan question

OP has a problem with anxiety prior to bedtime, so, it would seem inappropriate to me, personally, to suggest a dosing regimen that would be more useful to someone with issues staying asleep rather than sleep onset. I don't dosing so high to increase duration of action is going to help this person, just increase their benzo tolerance.

My 2c.

Wouldn't Temazepam be better for bed time anxiety than Ativan? Also, Temazepam is great for getting a good nights rest.......

I do not think 2 mg at bedtime is likely a necessary dose, at all; I agree in that it does seem excessive. But, for some nighttime anxiety and related insomnia, up to 1 mg would be generally appropriate, if you stick with lorazepam. I would agree, however, that temazepam would be a better bedtime hypnotic, among the benzodiazepines, but lorazepam is a pretty good hypnotic for some people, and it seems doctors have much less fear of lorazepam than temazepam or most other benzo's - why, who knows. Actually, though, if your anxiety is not severe and is confined to nighttime, and your insomnia is totally related to that, I might suggest maybe alprazolam or oxazepam, something with a shorter duration of action. Temazepam would probably be the best of its class, although I really know very little about your particular case. Hope this helps some.

I would think so..
I would also think that Lunesta would work better than Ativan too. Lunesta is actually very good at relieving anxiety in addition to helping sleep IMO/IME.
Would think the Dr. would try Z-drugs before jumping to a benzo, especially Ativan since it takes a lifetime to kick in plus it's medium length duration could lead to morning drowsiness/"hangover" and trouble getting outta bed depending on the length and quality of sleep gotten. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Firstly, let me just say I hate to hijack someone's thread....But I just made my account and apparently can't make my own yet..and if I weren't legitimately worried about my safety, I wouldn't.

Ok so here's the deal...I have been on mmt for a year and a half..up to 130mg, started going down about 1-2 mg/week a few months ago, I'm now at 108. On the weekends I usually skip my doses and smoke tar. I've also been smoking a little bit of glass every morning before work for the past two months...I'd say in the past 80 days, I've taken 4 days off...But I do very little at once. A $10 bag can last me a week. Not sure how much it is, but basically each morning I floor about half a match head worth..
So anyways, this weekend I got a couple grams of tar, and was gonna abstain from the glass til Monday but, addicts will be addicts.. so I took my morning dose at the clinic on Friday, used tar and glass after work, also took about 40 mg oxy, and to sleep, took a .5 ativan around 3 am.
Saturday I woke up around noon.. and smoked tar all day, about a gram, and smoked some glass, even up until like 6 pm, but I was able to go to sleep by about 10...woke up today (Sunday) about 9.
Only had about .3g of tar left. Finished it before noon. Chewed up an oc 80 around 11 am. Took 50mg methadone at 130PM, then another 50mg at 6PM. Smoked about 3 hits of glass at 6, too, because I had a date and was feeling tired. Now it is 9PM, I have to be up for work at 5am..I was laying in bed, and thinking how much it would suck to be up all night, from the glass..so I bit off about half ofa.5mg ativan...and now I'm just laying here, feeling panicked, because I know mixing benzodiazepines and opiates is dangerous...I only did so because I have a big opiate tolerance...But I was just hoping that my worries are unnecessary and I'm totally fine..so I wanted to post here and hopefully get some assurance..so any input is appreciated.

Temazepam is far better. I have a little experience with lorazepam and I agree that if I swallowed it it would take about an hour and a half before it kicked in but when taken sublingual I felt it within 30min.

Zolpidem only worked well for me when taken with other sleep aids such as mirtazapine or even diphenhydramine. It was great for the knockout but whore off after about 3 hours.
