Ativan (lorazepam) -Poll-

Ativan is no good, it takes too long (2.5hours for 90% of oral dosage) and even then it sucks. The half life of the active is 8 hours, so when you are ready to be "clean" you still have a dose on board. If you take 8mg at noon it will be in your system at 2:30pm and finally at 10pm you will have 4mg in your system. 6am in the morning 2mg, 2pm the next day 1mg, 10pm .5mg (still a "dosage" that doctors will prescribe for 'mild anxiety')

This is wrong unless you have some strange metabolism patterns. Just check numbers for lorazepam's half-life. It's up to a day. Anyway, it hits slower but it stays longer in the head. Slower doesn't mean 2 hours. It's one hour at most. I'm addicted to benzodiazepines and I've been mostly on lorazepam. It's suitable to be taken once a day.

It's a good anxiolytic but it may feel a bit sleepy for a non-tolerant person in doses a little higher than those for anxiety. It brights up mood a bit. It helps a lot for muscle problems during opiate withdrawal or stiffy neck.

I just changed my script from xanax to ativan (and from 0.5's to 1's)
Most people would think I'm crazy, but I don't like xanax at all.
And of course, I would have preferred valium but thats not just something you can ask for (most of the time). Valium/ativan are the two best (commonly prescribed in the US) benzos for their muscle relaxing properties, in my opinion, so that was a major cause for my switch.

Now all you benzoheads - would you have done that or do you think I'm nuts?
Which would you choose: 30mg ativan OR 15mg xanax (price is same either way, cheap co-pay)

^yea id take the 30mgs of lorazepam over the 15mgs of alprazolam. i think xanax sucks anyways, i never really liked it...too mental feeling, like it woudl always make me feel beat and depressed for some reason. ativan is a little smoother, valium being the smoothest.

I had a completely psychedelic experience off 0.5mg of Ativan mixed with 1.5mg of buprenorphine. When my eyes were closed I kept finding myself in these alternate realities, talking to people I had never met, I was turning into different animals... a whole bunch of wierd shit that I can't even begin to describe.

I had taken ativan with bupe a few times before and I had never experienced anything even close to this. I can't even begin to explain it... except to say that it felt a lot like lucid dreaming. A LOT.

I have had open-eye hallucinations like tracers with ativan before, but nothing this psychedelic.

i get euphoria from most all benzos,xanax being the MOST euphoric,i literally feel amazing,so relaxed ,food and drink taste better...so so SO relaxed

ativan ,i have had mixed results,i have taking 3 1mg tabs and felt great,used to use it for comedowns

valium is almost as euphoric as xanax and prefer valium over ativan ,although i had an opiate like nod one day after ingesting 4mg of ativan

but i will take ativan over nothing anyday,but the thing i hate about valiums is for some reason people seem to say this "i gotta have $5 bucks a piece they are tens" and im just like ...ok ,yea butto get a good euphoric high yo need 2.

and then they charge 5 for a 2mg bar and one fucks you up (without a tolerance) sorry i know thats a vague description but it pisses me off,like they know somthing about them and shit

I was just prescribed .5mg Lorazeaam (brand name Ativan) for anxiety attacks while a SSRI (Prozac) I'm not taking kicks in (my doctor sucks, she switched me from daily Clonazepam which was working perfect to shitty Proazac. The Lorazepam works nicely for when I'm feeling stressed out to mellow down or when I feel an anxiety attack oncoming it kills it within seconds (I have to sublingual .5mg Ativans). I don't abuse benzos because I've never really found them recreational (probably because I have anxiety? any comments on why what may be?) so I can't really vote on the poll. My anwser would be:

Ativan is a GREAT antianxiolic drug. It's even better then most, IMO, because it doesn't fuck you up like a stumbling, slurring drunk. However, it CAN at the "right" dosage. Most of you are looking/have been looking at Ativan in the wrong fashion, and benzos in general. FIRSTLY, if one is to "judge" them, then one should judge them by how effective they "solve your problem" (I.E., get you to where you want to be/feel.)...If your problem is anxiety, stress, paranoia, problems sleeping, then Ativan does the job it was meant to do. WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT BODY CHEMISTRY's,...so dosage is obviously going to vary A LOT, to get the same/similar effects.

Now I definately won't deny that Ativan is kind of a strange one, in that it can make quite a lot of people hullucinate (in the delusional way)...but so does ambiem (technically "sort of" a benzo), and so can/does (depending on the person & dosage, XANAX). I agree whole heartidly with the guy that said that xanax has made him hallucinate in the past..(and not in the "cool trippy psychedelic way")....but you generally need TOO MUCH xanax for that to happen.

Anyways, back to Ativan. When I was younger (in my drug experience), I looked at Ativan as a shitty and weak benzo that didn't fuck me up....it did if i took like 30 1mg pills, but still hardly, so it seemed. Years go by, I OD, almost die, and wake up in the ICU at the hospital...right when I came to, the nurse gave me 1mg IV shot of Ativan....OMFG...I saw the "potential"/what the drug is really for and can really do for the first time. Ever since, even when taking my 2mg Attivans PRN (as needed), I've gotten GREAT anti-anxiety effects from them...and yes you guys are right, they don't sedate you really that much at the THERAPUTIC level, but they definately take away ANY kind of stressors. (as much as can do for a lower theraputic dosage). But I digress...the other day I took 12mg of ativan and got decently fucked up and fuzzy...definately would use valium or xanax for that purpose over ativan....but it works wondering for COMBOS when using recreationally. I highly suggest that you NOT combine Ativan and Xanax, since both of them have been known to make people hallucinate, and let me tell you, it's not fun. Anyways, i'd take it with more of the longer lasting ones like valium, klonopin, heck even "more fun ones" like temazepam and royphanol.

I have to go,...got a final presentation for a big project that's worth 20% of my grade (college), and without a doubt, Ativan is my choice in this situation...xanax would risk me looking/acting fucked up....get the point?
I could talk seemingly forever on this subject and benzos in general, but i "unfortuantely" don't have the time. 8)

Ativan kills any effects I get from dxm. Bummer.

It is an AMAZING muscle relaxant for me...ymmv. It works well in preventing the severe panic attacks I get several times a day but it takes too long to kick in. I ate a total of 1.5 or 2mg today over the course of the day (I have 0.5mg pills, only 16 to get me through the week) and I'm pretty mellow, a little tired, most of all just feel relaxed. I felt a panic attack coming on and it was like it stopped it in its tracks.

I'm prescribed Ativan but I rarely ever take it. I've taken Xanax and k-pins, none of the three have ever given me any kind of "euphoria"; although the clonazepam was like a 6 pack in a pill. I really don't care for drinking though so I wasn't too impressed.

yes i have 100% definitely hallucinated on lorazepam.

i'm rx'd for GAD so i have experiences in every dosage category and eve with tiny amounts .5 i get minor c/oevs, mostly just patterns but sometimes on higher doses it makes my mind run wild.

I got my prescription to ativan filled today, ive been prescribed temazepam, nitrazepam, diazepam and zolpidem for insomnia tho i would take my lorazepam script over all of those anyday. i've been using benzos about twice a week for years and had never really heard of people hullucinating til myslef and 3 good mates had been up for a few days and decided to come down to get some sleep.

whoa. we all had like 4mg, and one bloke kept seeing different peoples faces on his best friends head, he asked him twice "who are you?" after spending the whole night with him. the other bloke kept thinking we were at this beachhouse we had been at like 2 weeks prior.. so i laughed it off went outside for a minute and my fence was 'warping' almost like it was breathing (only way i can put it).

we all enjoyed it tho, freaks. We've done it since and havent noticed fuck all.. i think being sleep deprived and having other substances active may play a big role in hullicinations, sorry if this has been covered. 2cents.
