Ativan and Methadone

I was prescribed Ativan about six months ago.. I only got six, and I have two left (haven't taken any for a long time, benzos aren't my thing obvs). I'm on methadone right now, 22 mgs. Am I ok to take a 1 mg Ativan like 8 hrs after I dosed? I ask because I googled and it says you need to be super careful combining Ativan and methadone. I tried calling the advice nurse from my health ins but she didnt want to answer and put me through to the pharmacy, which never picked up.

The safest thing would be not to combine them, obviously, but if you do use the Ativan, I would try just 0.5 mg to start. Also, remember that Ativan takes a while to kick in (unlike some other benzo's), so don't let it fool you into thinking you need to take more to get benefit from them. Also, Ativan lingers in the system longer than you would likely feel - just be very careful. I am assuming the 22 mg/day is just enough to keep you well and that you are using it as directed for maintenance and/or taper, otherwise I wouldn't suggest benzo's at all, not really knowing your situation.
