A friend of mine ODed on 20mg Ativan + alcohol + some Prozac/Wellbutrin on Saturday night. She was at the hospital within 30-45 minutes of ingesting the pils. I had assumed that she would get supportive care from ER and basically sleep it off and be (more or less) back to normal this morning/afternoon. Last night when she was admitted, she was asleep and couldn't be woken up. This afternoon, she woke up, in that her eyes are open and she's looking around the room, but she doesn't seem to recognize anything/anyone, and she's totally incoherent and unable to have a conversation, etc. In addition, she has these Parkinson's like tremors in her arms and legs. Almost 24 hours after the overdose, she's still in the same condition.

Does this sound like a "normal" recovery from a benzo/alcohol overdose, i.e. where it is still likely that person will make a full recovery? The mild benzo/alcohol overdoses I've seen in the past have involved a lot of sleep, but that's it. Does anyone else have any experiences with moderate/severe benzo/alcohol ODs? Thanks.

doesnt sound normal to me but what was her benzo tolerance like? some people can be out of it for days after large doses of benzos. how much alcohol did she have?

20mgs of Ativan is a SUPER large dose.
And drunk, she was out like a brick.

Now, What dose is her anti-depressants in?
Second, was she trying to use them as recreation?

The good news is that after about 36 hours of being completely out of it, she started talking again, but was still very confused. 12 hours after that, she was much more coherent and making sense.

I'm guessing that she had 15-20 pills each of Prozac and Wellbutrin and about a fifth of whiskey, plus an unknown number of beers earlier in the night. I don't think that she takes Ativan often enough to have developed a tolerance.

This wasn't recreational -- I think it was a poorly thought out suicide attempt. The doctors think that the tremors/agitation/confusion were the result of serotonin syndrome from the antidepressants, so in fact it looks like this wasn't just a straight up benzo/alcohol overdose. She is doing much better now, except for the problems which led her to overdose in the first place. I was worried that she might have had some sort of brain damage or something.

I have some sort of weak idea how much alcohol you can drink with benzos and get away with it (I know that this is extremely ill advised -- it's usually in the interest of gauging whether or not friends will be OK) but when it comes to more tricky polydrug use, I don't have a good idea of what you can ingest without death or permanent damage. That being said, if anyone has any personal data on how much alcohol/benzos you have personally been able to consume get away with, I would like to hear it. I understand that my (and others') mileage may vary.

Thanks for your help, guys.

-bump,

Me personally just started testing the waters, little ativan tolerance,

3mg ativan
1 or 2 beers

Have not noticed any ill effects but your mileage WILL vary so can other people post the substances and amount they can tolerate together
