Where are you going? Said the kid down the street,
I wasn't going far, I had no shoes on my feet,
I was going to the store to buy a few beers,
To forget where I was going and hide away my fears...

He told me that he was going somewhere too,
Did I want to know? Or did I even have a clue?
I humoured him and I asked him what he thought.
He said he was gonna be an astronaut...

As I walked on I realised that the kid, he was free,
Filled with naked potential, and it was inside me,
What was I to do with the rest of my days?
Maybe I would follow him up into space...

I was going where I'm going and I'll be back soon,
But the kid down the street, he was going to the moon,
Well when I returned that little kid he was gone,
And I’m still sitting here, singing this song...

Well where am I going and where will I be?
Stop asking questions like, What about me?
Because now is now, and then's already gone,
And tomorrow will be here at the crack of dawn...

Built up like a mountain right up into the stars,
Brought back down to earth and the smog and the cars,
Choked by our regrets and our hurts and our fears,
Why do we continue to shed so many tears?

I want to climb that mountain, that one over afar,
Instead of doing what I’m doing, I'm gonna reach for the stars...

I was going where I'm going and I'll be back soon,
But the kid down the street, he was going to the moon,
I humoured him and I asked him what he thought.
He said he was gonna be an astronaut...
