Haha I totally agree with the damned if you do, damned if you don't theory ... oestrogen production in women comes to mind - on the one hand it helps lower the risk of heart disease in premenopausal women but can also cause breast cancer in some cases.

I work in rehabilitation and from what I've learned and experienced over the years, the ideal day is one where you sit, stand and walk around in relatively equal measures, that is - alternating position and mobilisation fairly constantly throughout the day.
I'm a big believer in incidental exercise anyway. You need to get your heart going for 30 minutes a day a few times a week (although I really don't like it much, I'll be honest) but you also need to be moving around the way our grandparents and parents used to - less driving/more walking, cooking and cleaning instead of takeaway and someone else doing your cleaning, living in a house with stairs, just as examples.
