i agree the studies are biased, but then again which research isnt when you want it in your favour? the diet of scotland as a whole is particularly attrocious, one of the unhealthiest in the world, so red meat is not the sole contributor to the death rate. there was some sat about the death rate or cancer rate i got from one of my classes, and it was shocking that a country can be that unhealthy.
as a former veggie, i agree people can get nutrients from a vegan or vegetarian diet, although it does require more planning to get you iron as well as appropriate amino acid mixes in to ensure complete protein consumption. i also believe its healthier for the world and we would be much more sustainable if we switched to vegetarian. the way they treat most animals for consumption is terrible, and the hormones added are disgusting.
that said, i work in a butcher shop who has their own farms which naturally raise their meat and treat their animals properly. i personally love meat now, and wouldnt consider not eating it. and as a last note, people who consume large amounts of meat tend to consume large amounts of other unhealthy processed foods and simple carbs as well, which should be taken into consideration in these studies.
