Article on meat intake correlations

crystalpalace, I mean callas , Im an omnivore and I will stand next to you ( for a lot of the issues, though not all ) so yr not entirley alone in that ( i was a strict vegetaian for 30 + yrs of my life though . The problem is --for veggies -- that SOY products are mostly poison and ruin your thyrhoid ( i can post th link for anyone who neeeds it ) so what the HELL are we supposed to eat for protein right ?

A lot of these articles use very little scientifict fact and just use what fact they do have to bend the truth to suit their chosen point of view.

I think what is generally accepted as being healthy, whether you eat meat or not, is to maintain a balanced diet that varies from different food groups that is both low in saturated fats and low in cholesterol.

I don't think (and surley I don't need a objective scientific study to back this up with) that a balanced diet, which may include meat or soy products, is going to be bad for you. I'm sure many dieticians and nutritionists alike will agree.

I try not to eat too many soy products as well (esp the ones with concentrated isoflavones) because of my thyroid....I have a weak thyroid and soy is BAD FOR THOSE WITH WEAK THYROIDS. Anyway you can always get your protein sources from beans, lentils, lupins, peanuts, pulses, etc. So many other possibilities too if you search and look around. I also read that Spirulina is a very good concentrated form of protein .

A human can certainly get sufficient protein intake without the use of animal products. A varied diet of vegetables & legumes is honestly all you'll need. The concern that vegetarians cannot receive enough protein from their diets is very much a myth.

I am going to cut way down on my red meat for a while

and see how I feel,

right AFTER I eat the moderator crystalcallas

with a tomato based BBQ sauce ,

because cooked tomato products

prevent cancer in my prostate gland. FACT !

I will have her "rare" please

with a sprig of fresh Cilantro on the platter.

i agree the studies are biased, but then again which research isnt when you want it in your favour? the diet of scotland as a whole is particularly attrocious, one of the unhealthiest in the world, so red meat is not the sole contributor to the death rate. there was some sat about the death rate or cancer rate i got from one of my classes, and it was shocking that a country can be that unhealthy.

as a former veggie, i agree people can get nutrients from a vegan or vegetarian diet, although it does require more planning to get you iron as well as appropriate amino acid mixes in to ensure complete protein consumption. i also believe its healthier for the world and we would be much more sustainable if we switched to vegetarian. the way they treat most animals for consumption is terrible, and the hormones added are disgusting.

that said, i work in a butcher shop who has their own farms which naturally raise their meat and treat their animals properly. i personally love meat now, and wouldnt consider not eating it. and as a last note, people who consume large amounts of meat tend to consume large amounts of other unhealthy processed foods and simple carbs as well, which should be taken into consideration in these studies.

I just love reading these articles. Now, let's wait another 30 minutes for the next scientific study explaining why high meat intake is great.

People have been eating red meat since the begining of time..

well, apparently not everyone as is evidenced by the numerous vegetarian cultures mentioned in the article

maybe cancer is god's way of punishing us for slaughtering animals...i'm mostly kidding bc i don't believe in god per se, but it is sad to hear about slaughtering factories:(

^^ and instead an annoying meat eater who's desperate to jump on the defensive side and think that they're being attacked whenever the topic of diet comes up.
