Arseholes at parties.

the ideals incorporated in PLUR should be universal to all humankind, all the concretisation of such ideals into the phrase 'PLUR' achieves is to divide people into those that believe and those that dont.
which is very un-PLUR :P

If the ideals of plur were universal to all mankind and were upheld by all, the distinction would be irrelevant, there would be no divide...
Umm yeah, like that's gonna happen...

First of all I have to say...THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH RANDOMS i had an interesting experience at Kryal when I was wondering around the bush by myself for sum reason and this guy found me and ask if i was ok...he helped me back onto the track and walked with my back to bl tent, he was very nice and very friendly he also introduced himself to a few bl's and got chatting to a couple of them...great guy!
Also going to the toliet at parties you meet heaps of randoms...well in the chicks toliets you do...and everyone is really nice and friendly you chat for hours to eachother, but they don't anoy you or hug you or tell you how fucked they are!
Well so far I can honestly say I haven't had any really bad experiences with randoms!!!!!!!!!!

If everyone would just listen to the great man, Ali G: Raaaspekt!
I'm with Tars - I've pretty much lived my life to a type of PLUR ideal, even before I knew of or about it!
It's impossible to have total respect for every single person that walks the earth. There is always going to be certain types of people that will piss you off. After all, we are only human.

OK!!!
So I start this thread, forget to check it 4 a few days, and BAM!!! WW3!!!
I didn't mean to start disputes b/t people, and i hope that everyone has sorted things out with everyone else. I just wanted to know about people's experiences with others which really threw them off.
This thread has been a discussion about ideals, generalisations, and the big picture. I suppose it's a good topic, but not what i intended. I guess things don't always work out how we intend though. It took me near half an hour to go through all these posts and it was well worth finding out people's opinions.
Well, I'm spent!

hmm,
once and for all, and i think i speak on behalf of heaps of people in this thread,
randoms arent bad
annoying randoms *are* bad
"randoms" just means people u dont know.

Im sure at one stage or another everyone has been an "offyerchopsEarEatingMachine" monster... just show the same amount of respect that you would like shown to you....
simple
:)

i agree with stylin.
its a safe assumption to suggest that most of the people on bluelight have rolled before. and therein lies the fact that most of you have dealt with their 'first time' and everything which comes along with it... ie it usually takes a couple rolls to get over the initial 'this is so good', 'i want to talk to everyone' sort of phase.
as said above, what goes around, comes around... treat these people how you would like yourself to be treated in such a situation. you should be able to accept that there are and will always be newbies that are going to act like this...

Barney Gumnut:
I think your post has made the most sense and caused the least trouble in this whole thread.
Nice one.

I've got a t-shirt that says: "just because it happened to you doesn't make it interesting!"
I just point to it.
People that come and talk to at parties usually just go through the same routine:
"what have you had?"
"How many?"
"what's it like?"
"Yeah I'm pretty fucked"
Then stumble off.....

Melancholic and Stylin: Just for the record I'm one person who never irritated complete strangers with ceaseless babbling, first time or otherwise...
Schizo and BG: A lot of Elderly people talk to complete strangers about their family and other things interesting only to them... That's not wisdom... Relating life experiences and imparting some knowledge which can assist someone is could be considered wisdom... Telling someone how gorgeous your grandson is isn't.

Tars, I agree. One conversation with my Nanna and I'm in a coma for weeks. Maybe wisdom isn't the right word but I still believe that oldies are the wisest folks. There are infinitely more oldies who will smile, say hello and/or have a chat with a stranger than any younger generations.

^^^^^
You've obviously never met one of my Grandma's... ;)
Oh, and one other thing - people are preaching about respecting others and treating them how you'd like to be treated. I never said I didn't do that - I'm quite polite actually. I'm just saying that I don't fucking like it...

I'd just like to make a couple of points:

Group cohesion - The tighter the group, the harder it is to infiltrate, the more satisfaction gained from the group by its members. Dude it is human nature for people to form competitive exclusive groups and pit them against others - on all levels.

Which brings me to my second point -
PLUR is about individuality - adopting a uniform set of principles and applying it to everyone equally. Any such ideology is almost impossible to realise within a scene that is so cliquey and based around having a tight 'crew'. PLUR is a totally redundant concept, except within groups. PLUR only has any additional relevance when people are loved up on pills and thus actually go and talk to randoms - probably the only time in their lives they would do so.
e gave birth to PLUR, not the scene (guess it could be agrued that e gave birth to the scene, but that is a whole new ball game ;) )
But for real, FUCK PLUR, it's just a bunch of seppo bullshit anyway. People should have their values instilled within them and not need some stupid acronym to constantly express them...

regulator: i hear wat ur saying on the whole human nature trip.. i'm pretty sure i recognised that in my post, but then again a '3am eternal' post doesn't really make too much sense at the best of times.
I wuz more aiming at the elitist/too cool for school style groups, ie. the ones that think they have the only right to a party/event/whatever and anyone else there is just a lamer, rather than groups in general.
There's no doubt in my mind that if u want respect in an area, u have to earn it, but my point wasn't about developing long term relationships or breakin into a niche, but rather that ppls that make others feel inferior because they're not 'one of them' can screw up a nite as much as a jackass saying/doing something stupid.
