Singaporean arrested with more than 20,000 Ecstasy pills

JAKARTA (AP): Indonesian police arrested a Singaporean man about to board a flight to Australia with more than 20,000 Ecstasy pills strapped to his body, officers said on Friday.

The man was detained Thursday at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta airport, according to a police statement.

The 31-year-old had 20,080 Ecstasy tablets in four packets strapped to his body, the statement said. He was scheduled to fly to Sydney.

It was not immediately clear what charges he would face.

Ecstasy use is widespread across Indonesia. In recent years, criminal gangs have taken advantage of the country's poor law enforcement and rampant corruption to produce the drug for export.

A guy was sentenced the other day in Perth for bringing in just under 5000 pillls from Malaysia.

The point to this story is because they gave the total weight, number of pills and the purity in the article I was able to calculate the amount of MDMA in whatever pills these were. IT was a rather lucious 138mg.

I know OT but you cant help but feel the sorts of pills coming in from overseas are still just a little better than those being pressed here from imported and locally made "ingredients".
 
they made it out as if this was a huge blow to the australian drug market.. sure 20,000 pills is alot.. but in the grand scheme of things its nothing.

20thousand is small fry and is often transported this way, and often successfully too. not that i would, and nor would i recommend it. but then its a few too many to stick in my ass... i think. actually now that i think about it i probably could fit 20,000 in my pussy, but it'd be uncomfortable i suppose... not that i intend to find out.

Some people are very desperate for money, and although I'm purely guessing the money made from this would change the guys life for the better. He was probably living a very poor life and wanted to escape it either for himself or his family.

It is a shame and a waste of a life either way.
