Opioids Arm Falling Asleep After Injecting

hey guys,
Believe it or not, I am actually posting this for a friend who asked about this, and I don't have an answer.

He has been injecting dilaudid off and on recently, and he says that on the nights he injects dilaudid, the arm which he injected in falls asleep/gets pins and needles over and over when he goes to bed at night. I should also add that he has been micron filtering his dilaudid.

So basically, he will inject in one arm a few times, go to bed that night, and then ONLY THE ARM THAT HE INJECTED IN will fall asleep/get pins and needles as he is sleeping. He will wake up with his arm asleep, shake his arm around, go back to sleep and wake up again and again with that arm being asleep.

I can't think of what could be causing this. Again, he is micron filtering his pills and practicing safe injection technique, and I just don't know why the act of injecting should be causing the arm to fall asleep over and over at night.

Is this common? Any ideas?

He could be hitting a nerve in his arm.

What gauge needles is he using? Does he inject elsewhere, or only arms?

31 gauge needles.

I suppose its possible he is hitting a nerve, but since I haven't been there, I don't know. He just injects into the crook of his arms.

He insists that on the nights he shoots into his left arm, his left arm will fall asleep/get pins and needles many times when he goes to sleep, and if he hits his right arm, it happens to the right arm.

Any other ideas? Perhaps this is common.

I have no other ideas but I am sure other Bluelighters will be able to brainstorm some ideas up.

I once hit a nerve with a 31G needle and it tingled, mildly and only occasionally, for months and months until it finally fully went away and recovered. I have since stopped using this entire vein just because of this one occurrence.

I don't know if that's similar to what he's experiencing though.
 
This happens to me all the time, and I don't inject. It's common among opiate users. Generally if you are cutting off the path of a nerve, a normal person will turn in their sleep and relieve pressure on said nerve. When one is on opiates, your brain doesn't perceive the pressure on the nerve and you keep sleeping. When you wake up the limp is "asleep".

i remember hearing someone else say that on here also.

Exactly. It happened to me a while ago on benzos and opium (tea), Scary shit. My arm felt weird for weeks.
 
also, if he has been using the same spot in both arms, it could be just that his vein is tired for lack of a better word. it happened to me when i shot coke all the time, but then again i needed to re up like every 10 minutes..

he should try using a different spot, and see if its any different.

He most likely damaged damaged his radial nerve sleeping on it, it can be extremelly serious (alo happened to me before, serious this time, but my am is perfectly normal now after months of reeducation =___= on benzo+opi again.) If his thumb is numb and feels weird, that's the radial nerve, so go check a doctor
 
It's a scary feeling but he will be alright. I have done that in my leg and I couldn't even move it for a while. One time my arm turned kind of pale and bumpy but I was able to keep my cool because I had seen my friend Alex have that happen to him.
