anyone who would dicksize with being addicted would probably just get laughed at.

come on infinity, i hope you knew I was kidding. I am addicted to opiates currently however, i am on my 15th day now and today I am actually on 60 mgs methadone.
Addiction is a bitch.

Infinity, I hope you were kidding with me, also?

It's Refreshing To Say No. I'm Gonna Get A Drink To Celebrate!

Come to think...
I'm not.

Still just the ol' raging benzo & alcohol dependence.
I smoke weed pretty much every day,
but only 'caus my girlfriend does...
I can quit whenever I want.
Honest...
;)

Just curious, those who are addicted to alcohol - how much do you generally drink? How often? Also, what health problems do the serious drinkers notice? Cheers

Weed but it's not a real addiction, it's a mental thing.

I know this is completly off topic but bluedolphin everytime i see your avatar i think of LSD and how much i want to get it.

An addiction doesn't have to be physical to be an addiction. Withdrawls suck but they are over very soon, while the mental addiction you have to fight for life. People laugh at marijuana addiction but I look at as the same as any other mental addiction. People ask how you can get addicted to marijuana and tell me it's impossible. Although it is a lot harder to get addicted to marijuana than other drugs, it is very possible. Anything that gives you a sense of euphoria can get you mentally addicted. I could say the same thing about cocaine, how could someone get addicted to that? I honestly couldn't see myself getting addicted to cocaine and it is all in the head, and the fact that the drug lasts half an hour tops just makes me pissed off.

I don't find marijuana to be all that addictive and I think its usage could be controlled A LOT easier than opiates, benzos, alcohol and other hard drugs. I look at cocaine as a non-addictive substance also and although I look at it as a lot more harmful than marijuana obviously, it just doesn't appeal to me because of the short-lived high, the cost, the short-term fiend factor and the fake feel to it. I get temporarily addicted to it when I run out but as soon as I get some downers and sleep it off I feel fine and don't want to do it for some time again unless it's free or I have downers.

In the past I've had problems with heroin and, to a lesser extent, benzodiazepines...but right now my only "addiction" is to methadone. Not illegal the way I do it (clinic), but with the potential for illegal diversion.
And just to weigh in on the marijuana debate: I've been to more rehabs than you can shake a stick at, and at every single one there was at least one person with a marijuana problem - - and, from what I could tell, it was every bit as debilitating a problem as an addiction to opiates or cocaine or meth or whatever. No physical withdrawal, of course, but in my opinion it's the psychological withdrawal that is the most lasting and maybe even the most painful.

I take that as a compliment to my Photoshoppin' avatar creation skillz ;)

No, and I'm happy to report my alcohol consumption has been reduced to two days a week.

I don't really get the whole "hey, yours is only a mental addiction" thing ... OK, so you have some nasty physical sensations to go along with your cravings - so what?

To put it very clearly:
Just because your situtation sucks harder doesn't mean mine doesn't suck.

And to finish it off:
You're right though, a marijuana addiction is quite easy to break free from. You just need to spend a couple of THC-less days and you'll most likely never want to smoke a joint again (that is, if you were an extensive user of it, as I was). Marijuana's so safe it's incredible ... I spent 12 months smoking 6 full joints every day and then quit, cold turkey. What happened?

I wasn't as hungry for the first 2 days. Period.

I was addicited to speed for about, if not a little more than 10 years. I still crave it everyday, but I choose not to use it.

booze and pills

I drink approx 12 beers each and every weeknight, (from 6pm to 12am, usually) and more on weekends (consistently for many, many years, though flus, bouts of WDs, etc). Speaking of WDs, I have consistently been using opiates for about 8 years, currently using approx 160mg oc daily (or equiv). I do other drugs on a regular basis, but none of them seem to matter, except to increase the buzz. Alcohol is a bitch, though. Be careful, children:\ !

I'm not trying to have an attitute so don't think i'm coming across rudely do anyone addicted to marijuana but what reasons would you have to quit other than to pass a drug test for a job or something? If you are not getting drug tested then smoke some pot, no harm done. It is a very easily maintained habbit and it is very easy to do everyday activities on this substance anyways. It kind of annoys me when people just all of a sudden "stop." I could understand cutting down your smoking but why stop? It is not going to hurt anyone if your smart and you don't get arrested or talk about it outside your home.

^^
pot costs money. it's bad for your lungs. it's bad for most people's energy/motivation. it's bad for your memory. some people get anxiety. some people hate having a big tolerance. plenty of reasons to quit

I think a lot of people like myself found that the pot really began to change my personallity in general, making me more paranoid and anxious then I already was to begin with. Ofcourse having an anxiety disorder can't really be helped any by smoking weed. So for me it wasn't an addition but more of I better stop this stuff before I go crazy.

I know a few people that get anxiety from marijuana and I have a few times, mostly when I am nervous when I feel I may fail a drug test but if you have the money for it, you work hard and everything is going your way, why quit? I know a lady who smokes one joint everynight and has done so for about 20 years, she is about 34 now, very pretty and wants to quit. Everything is going her way, she has plenty of money, owns a nice home, has a husband, and is in good shape ect. I can't see why someone would even want to quit, and it costs her no more than a pack a cigarettes a day, about 3 bucks for a fat joint of midgrade.

She has said she wanted to quit but everytime she does she stops for a day or two she pops percocet which is obviously much worse.

mabye she is worried that some how she will get caught and risk losing all of the good things in her life. perhaps she is having lungs problems. Also, saving $3-5 dollars a day adds up quickly.

maybe because marijuana is ILLEGAL in the US...that might just play a small role in it. it is also bad for your lungs and inhaling any smoke can't be healthy. i quit during baseball season so i have more motivation and energy. there are plenty of reasons why people up and quit sometimes.
