Are you a successful drug user?

Despite being strung out for my entire teen years and into my mid twenties, I still somehow managed to graduate high school and college... Which, is more than I can say for a lot of my friends. But, that despite whatever moniker of success I have now... If I hadn't been a heroin addict.. I know I'd probably be in a much better place.

I'd consider myself a successful drug user so far...graduated high school with top grades (in France we get this huge exam at the end of high school) and also got second place in the country's most prestigious teenage literary competition. Currently attending one of the best universities in the UK and almost finished writing my first novel. /bragging over

Oh and this is after spending all of last year strung out on 15mg xanax daily and all of this year on oxy and heroin

Luck did play a big part in it though

Taking into fact my numerous detox's and rehabs and the fact that i'm only 22.....I'm gonna say fuck no lol. I don't use drugs anymore they use me. Recovery <3

I am dysfunctional with or without medication/drugs..... at least I could probably maintain functionality for a few years with access to EVERY DRUG IN THE WORLD! muhahahaha. but in the end it would not be good. For every high there is a low, for the period of time you spend sober, you will be blessed wih good highs.

Im a musician, and so on stage, with or without drugs im ok. but in the writing process, or recording studio- Gimme a Fix or a I'll go Down.

I'd say overall yeah despite 2 rehabs for opiate dependence and a few OD's, as well as a hella frightening tumultous time coming off meth.. But now i can take opiates recreationally or for pain without falling back into abusing them and take scripted amphetamines. I'm at university doing a pre-med program, getting good grades (admittedly my first two years were a write-off due to being so wanged and having to drop courses). I was elected fleet captain at my sailing club and have been placing well in regattas, and pretty much have all my old friends back that I had lost when at my worst on meth. My family is starting to trust me again too. That's about the most sucess i could really hope for at this point in my life.

My husband and I both use daily and are what I consider extremely successful. We are profitable business owners. We have happy well adjusted children. We own out home, have several cars.. We can afford to vacation every year.
And most importantly we are functional members of society.. We have HEALTY relationships in our lives. We are amazing parents. We don't expose our children to our recreational choices. Over indulgence leads to problems.. It effects your health and your finances..

I've had problems w/ most drugs throughout my life, but during my undergrad my most commonly abused substance was alcohol, and in a lot of ways I was successful: I held a job consistently, did well in my courses, and was accepted to grad school. But my interpersonal relationships were really a mess, and I was using alcohol to combat social anxiety; I didn't feel quite comfortable socially w/o it.

In high school, I smoked a lot of marijuana, did a lot of hallucinogens, some E, pharms, and a decent amount of blow, and I didn't take school seriously even a bit. I think this had more to do w/ my recalcitrant attitude than the drugs, however.

More recently, in my grad school years, I've not been a successful addict by any stretch. Heroin and IV drug use, cocaine, and methamphetamines have diminshed my professional veneer and now I'm trying to teach myself moderation. My interpersonal relationships are still entangled in a web of anxiety, my romantic life is nil, but my sex life manages to persistently survive :)

I'm never high AT work. But I use drugs basically every weekend. My job is pretty awesome. I get 40-44 hrs/week. I'm technically part time ... there will be a full time position at some point but I just have to wait on it ... but I'm pretty much guaranteed that job. But my manager gives me tons of responsibilities which is nice. I also get most weekends off. I just got a raise, starting today actually. No one in my department has gotten a raise in two years, so I feel pretty lucky. I didn't even think a raise was possible. But, as my manager said, it was based on merit. Sooo I'm pretty happy about that :)

Can take 'successful' in different ways but personally Id say yes. After getting into speed at 13 then barbs and heroin from 20 Ive had a methadone script for 28 years now. Been busted for heroin posession 5 imes and supplying once and cannabis cultivation but just fines.
I was working for alot of the major financial houses in London on their computers for many years doing 60 hour weeks earning 6 figures. Doing a g or heroin and couple g of coke a day but my Mrs had a miscarriage and it made me realize I wasnt having fun so I gave up the rat race.
I now do club promoting and Djing as well as selling/collecting records. I have enough money for a couple months in either India/Thailand/Cambodia or wherever else a year and have had stays in these places for upto 9 months.
I still have my methadone script and I get a eighth of heroin every 2 weeks or so for a good day. But on visits to India for example I probably end up doing 7 g of good grade 1 heroin a day as well as lots of mdma/acid/ket at the partys.
Im glad I have my script (always will have it Im sure) as it enables me to do gear and not be sick and running round looking to score in the mornings. Im generally happy, live well, a happy Mrs, friends all over the world and a year round tan hahaha.

I'm doing my masters and I work full time. I'm getting help soon though, I got into an addictions counseling program thing.

Kind of a paradox, if you use drugs society will always call you unsuccessful. "Cuz all drugs are bad" (except caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, dex-amphetamine, antidepressants, sleeping pills etc, anything that a dr. says is "ok"lol)

But yea any street drug will pretty much get you labeled as a grungy, lazy, stoner. At least where I'm from.

I consider myself successful because I treat everyone that I know with absolute love and never directly harm anyone (since I kicked dope at least). I will never be rich or a business man, but if I'm happy and make those around me happy, I will be the most successful man in the world in my eyes.

I'm a very successful drug user. Self made millionaire by the age of 25 (I'm 29 now). I've used almost every drug...really the only major ones I haven't tried have been crack and ketamine, and I'm not addicted to any of them.

I mean I really don't think that any of that was crap...it's only logical to question someone (especially when they post a highly unlikely story) on an anonymous forum.

What drugs do you use ?!

I do well at Uni, but that's really about it. I could party more and hookup more but I'm sorta over it - so there's a bit to be desired there.
