im confused, do you mean depression as in CNS depression (drowsiness), or depression as in you just lost a loved one (feelings)?
it is hard to distinguish because it seems as if you are looking for a benzo that will give you energy like an AD, but sorry, there are no benzos like that. GABAergics affect GABA, and GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, meaning it will depress your CNS, make you feel drowsy, but also make you feel less anxious. depending on how you look at the situation, your depression is causing your anxiety, or your anxiety is causing your depression; so it would be wise to figure out the root of your anxiety while you take a drug to take care of the symptoms. however, no true progress will be gained by swallowing some pill, you have to work and be proactive in changing your life through CBT and changing out bad habits for good ones ( exercise, eating healthy, ect..). i relate this to trying to fix an old car that wont run properly. you wouldnt be able to maintain and run the car properly with just a screw driver would you? you would NEED spare tires, jumper cables, screws, bolts, wrenches, engine oil, ect.... same thing applies to your situation, you can't just believe that the pills will do all the work, you need a combination of therapies to help you conquer and control your anxiety/depression!!
in your situation, you might benefit from Wellbutrin + benzo, which is one of the ONLY antidepressant meds out on the market that i personally benefited from, meaning that bupropion helped with depression and made me more optimistic/positive. i have tried other SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs, ect.. and they all just really suck IMO/IME. they are just marketing schemes to get you to spend money on their drugs. the wellbutrin will give you energy, similar to how amphetamines feel IMO, and give you that extra push to physically get out and do work or chores or whatever...it is one of a kind, and for once, i say good job to the pharm companies for coming out with this drug! (ironic because last year they had to recall all wellbutrin from the market because some of the pills being manufactured were duds, and did not contain ANY bupropion, just inactive materials. sighh)
for you, id recommend a non-drowsy (or at the least sedating benzo), long acting benzo like clorazepate (desmethyldiazepam), librium (chlordiazepoxide), or oxazepam. the first two benzos are only partial-agonists or metabolized into partial-agonists and won't cause as much sedation as a full agonist (aka Xanax or klonopin). the latter, oxazepam, has a unique pharmacology being the slowest absorbed benzodiazepine which will bring on a much smoother, less intense and less sedating anxiolysis. either one of these three would work well with wellbutrin for anxiety/depression, and these 3 benzos are the "least addictive" benzos because of their unique pharmacology, or one could argue they are the least addictive...
