Are there any dangers going to sleep very high?

I've always wondered about the possible dangers of going to sleep while high.

Sometimes I will take a dose of Temazepam, 80mg or so and I get really tired.
I know that when you go to sleep your breathing rate naturally drops to lower levels then normal.
Would being high on temazepam and going to sleep be dangerous because they both lower your breathing rate at the same time?

Would it be more dangerous if I took the 80mg and laid right into bed waiting for it to kick in so I can fall asleep, see as how the drug is at its peak and your breathing would be at its lowest point?

Any answers would be appreciated :)

Interesting question, and although I can't give a good answer I can say I've went to sleep multiple times after taking doses upwards of 300 and I always woke up.

300mg of Temazepam? What was your usual tolerance, as in did you up your dose more then you normally take or was 300mg just your tolerance?

One risk is that you might not awaken in case of a fire or other emergency.

Respiratory depression & death becomes a risk at some dosage, not all that likely w/ benzos alone but not impossible. Much more likely when mixed with other CNS depressants.

Weird behavior and blackouts. Being in a stupor and walking in traffic or off a roof.(I think more of a risk w/ Z drugs)

I'm not saying any of these are very likely but this thread is about enumerating some risks so I thought I'd throw some out.

If your used to taking that much and haven't had a period of no use for your tolerance to drop off a bit, then fine.

But keep in mind that if you mix with any other depressants or if you snore, have sleep apnea, are overweight, these things could cause deadly respiratory depression. My ex had sleep apnea and didn't even know it! I would listen to him stop breathing for minutes at a time in fear when he combined even small doses of xanax with always high amounts of alcohol. He'd never believe me, until I recorded him with my phone. He never even realized the potential danger...

I would think that if you know you are laying down to sleep and not passing out first, you aren't in danger... but it sounds like not knowing how high your going to get before you fall asleep could be bad?

If you mix depressants, the critical time is indeed when you sleep. I'd say that with only benzos, the risk is low, but be careful.

I don't know about the danger but I took 240mg of codeine for the first time in a while, and I noticed I stopped breathing for like 20-40 seconds at a time as I was peaking. =/

As long as you are taking only a benzo you won't die, it's mixing with other things that can kill you. Taking high doses of benzos on a regular basis will lead to some very nasty withdrawls, though.

It depends on the dose. Lower ones are fine, higher doses I can't really sleep on anyway. Unless they are high enough to knock you out, and that isn't very safe whether you go to bed or not.

If it's just benzos alone.. not really.. I have had so many times I have taken benzos and drifted off to blissful sleep. Woke up fine... if you were mixing opiates or alcohol I'd say tread with caution but.. benzos alone? No danger really.
