I've heard that TECHNICALLY it is illegal to grow opium poppies. However, opium poppies are a somewhat common ornamental flower. If you have a big garden full of roses, gardenias, daffodils, tulips, and have a few poppy plants without any evidence of opium harvesting, you may likely be within the law. However, if you have some poppies with their unripe pods slit, you are basically guilty of opium cultivation. So is poppy cultivation technically legal or illegal within the USA? Also, does each state law vary?
