Are Monster energy drinks bad for you?

Energy drinks are not good for you. I've been drinking them nearly daily for about 3 years and I really really need to quit. Last year I was up to 2 diet rockstars a day and lately its an endorush everday while working out (500mg of caffeine per bottle). Not good for you at all.

I actually justified it to myself once with, "I'm vegan so I need B vitamins any way I can get them."

The biggest problem with energy drinks is the COST! If you drink one per day, that's more than I pay for high speed WiMAX internet monthly! Just for a tasty preparation of caffeine, a dirt cheap alkaloid. I can get brewed drip coffee daily at a cafe for cheaper.

I drink only tea, filtered/purified water, and coffee in that order. Energy drinks are disgusting IMO.
The amounts of sodium and sugar in the drink Damien posted are actually relatively low.

I was just saying that because on the link it has a section it has good points and bad points. The bad points were:

* Very high in sodium
* Very high in sugar

So I assumed that's why they are "bad"? My mother drinks like one or two a day and she seems pretty healthy other then her irregular high heart rate when she gets stressed.

I started a controversial thread about this a while back.. Couple years ago, about energy drinks in general. We came to the conclusion that they are neither horribly bad or healthy for you. Although there are some interesting vitamins that CAN be good for you, the sugar and caffeine drowns out any positive effects you can get from the vitamins lol.

you guys should check out the Monavie energy drink called EMV.

It has no added sugar, coloring or preservatives and the second ingredient is acai berry. These are by far the best on the market, only problem is they are quite expensive and you have to know a distributor or sign up to be one yourself in order to purchase them. BTW, if you are going to sign up, let me put you in my down line ;) /spam

seriously though, I've been drinking the highfructose crack for years and Monavie is the best.

Well I heard that some of the other ingredients in Monsters and other energy drinks are some of the leading causes of heart attacks in teens. I assume this is some of the more already unhealthy teens. I'm not 100% sure on this. Maybe somebody else has other information...

But recently a new drink called Venom came out. It's like flavored monster and the taste stays in your mouth for 10 minutes (literally). It's good.

All energy drinks put strain on your heart.
They are all bad.
They should be illegal.

monster in general has 160mg or so of caffeine. Most other drinks in the same category have 30-80mg.

I would never drink any energy drinks, if you need an energy drink to give you a boost, why don't you just try taking care of yourself instead, it's got no bad consquences and is purely good for your body. If you need energy throughout the day, you most likely either have some form of chronic fatigue, aren't getting enough sleep or are malnourished and probably dehydrated as well...

I don't understand why people drink this shit all the time, it's sooooo bad for you, it's bad for your teeth, it's bad for your heart, they either contain obscene amounts of sugar and other useless shit, or they are sweetened with aspartame which is awful for you. There is no good reason to be drinking these energy drinks, just eat a healthy diet, drink enough fluids, and get enough sleep and you should be fine unless you have some underlying problem (which energy drinks do nothing to honestly help you with)....that's my two cents.

If I feel lethargic or something, I eat an apple and some wheat toast with peanut butter, gives a huge energy boost that lasts without any of these harsh peaks and comedowns that these energy drinks give you.

i use a lot of products (in small doses) with caffeine in them before races and both before and during extremely long efforts. sometimes it's powergels, or something else geared towards athletics, but i've found that flat red bull works just as well (so long as i'm not going over two hours, in which case i also need real food).

interesting study on sugar and performance in endurance athletes. and here's some evidence of the effects of caffeine and taurine on athletic performance.

Uh, your a member on a drug forum. So your probably do/have done drugs. Drugs will kill you (or hurt your heart) faster than a monster. Also a car will as well, or tobacco. Hell, if you even drink coffee then your two cents must be refunded. lol just kidding. Sorry, I just really love monster and will defend it with my life!

You are right about being healthy, but sometimes people just need a boost. Especially if you are like me and hate mornings. I do not drink monster energy daily due to money probs, I just drink coffee now.. BUT, if I had the means, you bet your ass id be drinking a monster right now. I just like the taste really, but the energy boost is a nice addition.

Also, your right about the sugar too. There is def too much in a monster. I just try to brush my teeth soon after, but if its a big problem for you, there are always the sugar free monsters/other energy drinks available. Cheers :)

monster + hypnotiq + nurvo = crunk

it aint no harm, maybe a few std's if u fuck wid dem hoes.

I love caffine and I love energy drinks. They are no more harmful than the sum of their parts. I regularly consume all of the ingredients in a Monster or Red Bull (Go Fast is my fav- but its really difficult to find).

Some people have problems with sugar or caffine but if you have a lot of them anyways then its not really a problem.

I drink coffee in the morning as an energy drink. The caffeine definitely helps me think more clearly and focused.

Anything with sugar, in all its forms... corn syrup, high glucose syrup, fructose, etc... can give me a quick rush but is always followed by a complete energy drain as my body produces insulin to compensate for the sugar spike.

I avoid those energy drinks because I consider them to be like washing down a multi vitamin with a can of soda. The vitamin is good for you, but not the soda.
