Ive been an opiate addict all of my life. I do not have any recollection of life without the burden of addiction. My brain developed while I was under the influence of opiates. I say all of this to give you some insight into how I might even know what im talking about.
But what I have found true for myself is that addiction is a battle within the desires of my flesh. For me itās been spiritual. It disrupts the balance between pain and pleasure. This contributes a lot to the growth of our character. Itās just not in our best interest for us to have control over when we feel this good.
But at the same time I know thereās gotta be blood in the paint.
It was not until Beethoven had became so deaf that he could no longer hear the full orchestra that he finally composed his best piece.
It was not until John Milton had become completely blind that he was able to write one of the best poems of his time.
It was not until Walter Scott was kicked by a horse and confined to his house for many days that he could write the poem that made him forever famous āLay of the Last Minstrel."
āThe painter who mixes his colors with blood from his own broken heart makes the best pictures. The mightiest men of all ages have been mightiest in their agonies."
-Talmage
It was not until after Joseph was betrayed by his brothersā¦sold into slavery and thrown into prison that he received the opportunity to become second only to Pharaoh.
It was not until David was hunted like an animal in the wilderness that the weight of the opposition against him began to change himā¦making him the greatest king in Israel.
It was not until after Paul was beaten and bound in prison that he was enabled to begin the church at Philippi
It was not until after Jesus suffered and died on the cross that He was able to rise from the deadā¦.save us from our sins and ascend to prepare us a home in heaven.
Just like Talmage wrote: "The painter who mixes his colors with blood from his own broken heart makes the best pictures."
The Bible saysā¦.
āIf we have been united together in the likeness of His death certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection... if we died with Christ we believe that we shall also live with Him"
Romanās 6:5-8
Thatās why we have hope. Thatās why we can count it all joy. Thats happiness. Knowing that. Not heroin or anything else synthetic
