Are any drugs inheritely prone to causing bad trips? Are any less so?

I would say LSA from personal experiences. Also maybe shitty acid (DOx) and 2c-x's as well as they are fairly chaotic and uncontollable.

Lets not forget piperazines, some more than other. 5-MeO-AMT maybe. DOM sounds hardcore as well. 5-MeO-T's in general may have an extra tendency although some may disagree. 2C-T-4 sounds kinda nasty sometimes as well. And salvia is a seriously mad one, although a high level of difficulty with proper dosage admin can be the problem more than may be realized.

Yea 2C-B, 2C-C and 2C-D are gentle ones...

id say mescaline for a first trip. mescaline is the least 'mind-warping' and euphoric of the traditional hallucinogens, plus you can order san pedro off the net. lsd would come in second.

drugs inherent to causing a bad trip- datura, salvia

but any psych can cause a bad trip in the wrong circumstances

Mushrooms have the potential to cause bad trips in unexperienced trippers, but the only one that's given me a truely bad trip is salvia, and it's happened multiple times.

mushrooms always manage to scare me but i still like them. they feel more "primal" and less thought oriented than lsd which can be nice sometimes. like 80% of my mushroom trips i managed to get seriously freaked out by something. maybe it's because i always take them in dark settings, but damn. even though i consider myself "seasoned" with tripping mushrooms seem to have their own agenda, sort of like some other drugs

Thanks for the input so far. To summarize, the drugs that are particularly likely to have bad trips on are:
psilocybin mushrooms
5-methoxylated tryptamines
2C-T-4
Salvia divinorum
datura

My first trip was on mescaline and it was great. I do recall having to remind myself to let go a few times and getting some sensory overload (although I was dancing between a drumset, a guitar, and a bass guitar). These were not overwhelming but I would not want to turn someone anxiety-prone off from tripping right away, although I think dealing with those could be a healthy introduction on handling psychedelics. I am still leaning towards AMT as a first psychedelic. I should try LSD myself before I make a conclusion.

100% agree.

My first few trips were on mushrooms & whilst they were great trips, they certainly weren't all that easy going at times. But on mescaline I can just lay back, relax into it & feel amazing.

LSD works well too, I was kind of surprised how much smoother & friendlier the trips were compared to mushrooms.

Phones are devil devices tripping unless somehow only people that respect tripping know your number. But we digress.

haha, i remember one particularly amazing acid trip, after 1 bicycle blotter (probably ~180ug) i threw my phone into the distance while rolling around on the grass in a park at night... completely lost my mind and my phone. hours later as the trip wound down i cleaned out my shoes and went looking for it. friend (also had tripped that night) found it in a puddle. dried it out and it's good as new!

on a previous experience with high-dose mushrooms, i remember listening to pink floyd 'the wall' you know the part with the phone ringing, it catalyzed my immersion into the trip. went through my own constructed hell before i pulled out of that one.

i've always found mushrooms to be quite difficult to have a really good trip on. they don't "stay on track" as acid does in the first 5-6 hours. with mushrooms i always had to keep an eye on my thoughts and surroudings to keep things pleasant.

lsd definitely has a slight push in the positive direction, and dmt much more so.

i find the 2Cx's that i've tried fairly reliable, theres a low risk of bad tripping... once you get to know them a bit... but if you've never done psychs before maybe a low dose of shrooms would be good...

and if you have some benzos handy thats allways a plus if you want to come-down a bit....

the only drug that comes to head for me that could cause a likely bad trip is datura

I have to go with LSD not too much and plan a relxing enjoyable night outside like the beach or park. Do something chill where you can explore. Im sure they would have a wonderful trip.

I would give this question a big FAT no. everything that everyone has said so far on this thread just talks about their own personal experiances, nothing about the drug's "ability to trigger bad trips" or whatever. thats crazy. cmon now.

I have experienced very good moments and very bad moments with every psychedelic ive ever used.

Of course, the entire range of human emotional experience can possibly be had with any psychedelic, and everyone reacts differently to certain things. But there's been enough input from those who've sampled from the psychedelic pharmacopeia that there's a clear tendency amongst certain chemicals for having a more positive or negative 'push' to it.

Seeing as how a change of one atom amongst many structures lead to vastly and conclusively different experiences, it is certainly not 'crazy' to conceive of certain chemicals having a general tendency to a certain emotional effect, based on pharmacological and biological factors which we don't yet entirely understand.

I find cell phones devil devices period, but especially while tripping.

People are way too into their cell phones these days. Being able to be contacted 24/7 wherever you are is not a good thing.

My contract ended and I'm glad. I'm never getting a cell phone again. For the once in a while where I'm out and I need to call someone I can drop a quarter in a payphone.

Death to cell phones.

i think the set and setting of the environment determine the (noticeable) effects of any psychedellic. ime, although the 'trip' you go on is always different, there is one thing that all psychs give u-that psychedellic mindset (most r very similar 2 one another, some a little different) and imo that is why some people prefer other psychs to others- if that mindset suits how you are comfortable to think, then all your trips will be good- for me, now that i know lsd, i CANT have a bad trip- i can have very ahrd times, but with time and thought its always good. however im not as used to other psychs so still have that slight hesitation at the back of my mind lol

i would hazard a guess that is why most 'psychonauts' really love lsd, mescaline , mushrooms (and if ur definition of psychedellic is very openminded) mdma- they mindset on all of them is quite comforting once u get 2 know them because although they may be overexaggerated thoughts, they do stem from reality (i.e they arent complete delusions lol).
