Most pregnant women have crazy cravings...cupcakes, shit like that. I can honestly say the whole time I been prego so far, I aint really had a single craving. theres been a few times that I thought "wow, i would really like to eat____ right now" but never strong enough to call a craving I dont think. But the only thing that comes close tho, that I been eatin obsessively this whole time, is apples. God damn, all of a sudden out of nowhere i just fuckin LOVE apples. I want to eat them all the time. I cant stop eatin them. I eat at LEAST one or 2 a day, but when they are available and i got a good amount of them here at home, I will eat 4 or 5 in a day easily. I just eat the fuck outta those apples, I dont know wat it is but i just love them. I cant stop eatin em, Im a apple feen! Im addicted to apples! lol.

So....Who else is a apple lover like me? I really want to just talk about how fuckin awesome apples are and how much I love them and how they are the best snack ever, but that would be a pretty shitty thread. so instead, lets talk about the kinds of apples that yall prefer and shit like that. Wat kind of flavor do you like in apples? You the type who likes the really tart kind , like granny smith, or do you like em sweet? Do you like crunchy crispy apples or soft ones like macintosh? wats your favorite apple to snack on, and which ones do you prefer for baking with (that is, IF you bake, i know not everbody here gets all housewife style with the baking pies and shit like i do, haha.)

I just found these 2 kind of apple that i never heard of before, and god damn they are fuckin delicious as hell. So i cant wait to share that info with people who would appreciate it. Ill save that for my next post tho, I dont want to make the OP into a "tl;dr".

anyways, Ima answer my own question now.

My usual 'old standby' favorites are Gala apples and Golden delicious.
(or the newer variety of the golden that i been seeing alot in stores instead, the Ginger Gold.)

I like these ones cuz they so sweet and juicy, and they got a soft texture. Sometimes i really like those soft apples and dont want one thats so damn crunchy. when Galas are really ripe, when the fruit stops bein greenish white and gets a nice yellow color, and you can actually smell the apple thru the skin, thats when they are the best IMO. I like them slightly over ripe, they are soooo sweet and juicy then and i dont mind that they are a little bit soft.

The golden delicious aint much different from the gala, they both sweet and definately not tart at all, and got a little bit of a bland flavor. The golden is a little bit crispier than the gala, i think and it got a lil bit of a coarser texture. It has more of a pear-ish kinda taste than the gala, i think. The ginger gold has a little less of a sweet taste and less of that pear flavor to it and got a little more , IDK, maybe a slight bit of tangyness than aint in the golden delicious. I like em both, im startin to dig the ginger gold a little more tho I think.

But lately, i found out these 2 new kinds of apples that I never tried or even heard of before, and after i tasted them, I am in fuckin love! I think that I found my new favorite.

The first one is called Pinova. Mad weird, never seen it anywhere before. It turns out its a patented variety of apple. the company out in washington or w/ever that owns the rights to it is the only one allowed to grow it. They decided to rename it Pinata instead of pinova, so thats the name they market it under now. But, the orchards that bought the seeds for it and started growin it before the patent went into effect are stilll allowed to keep growin them under the Pinova name. So they are rare, you might not be able to find em too easy, but you should try becuz they are fucking BANGIN. They are super crisp, and really sweet but equally tart at the same time, its so hard to explain. The flavor is super complex, its like a explosion in your mouth. Its sweet, kinda tart tangy apple taste with a little tropical twist in there too all at the same time. With every bite i ate I would taste the juices and be like goddamn I cant wait for the next bite. Its one of the best tasting apples I ever tried especially becuz the flavor is so hard to pin down. really good shit tho, I think that it would appeal to jst about anybody becuz the flavor got a little of everything in there.

And the other new kind I just tried is called the Cameo apple. OMG, Its so fuckin delicious. Its super crispy and crunchy, and nice and sweet with a little tang to it just the slightest bit of tartness that gives the flavor a lil kick. Its super juicy and the flavor aint flat like macintosh or red delicious, etc. Its kinda complex, like first it tastes sweet, and then it tastes a little bit tangy too. It aint really tartness, like with a granny smith apple or w/ever but just a little bit of tang. Very, very juicy, i like to cut the peel off and cut them up into slices and put it in a big bowl and i just chomp the fuck thru like 3 of them in a row. I would definately recommend it , I get tired of eatin the same kinds that I know i like over and over, but sometimes its hard to find one that i REALLY like that can replace my old favorites. but this one immediately went right up to the top of my list, Its definately a new favorite that I will be eatin on the regular now for sure.

Anyways, thats my 'apple preferences guide' for now...I hope yall who are also apple eaters will post your favorites too and maybe we could all find some good new varieties to try by learning from each others recommendations.

Also I would like to know if any of yall who bake at all could suggest the kind you think goes best in pies. I always used a blend of granny smith and macintoshes, but im interested to try other kinds and see how it comes out so if anybody got anything to share about that im down to find out plz.:)

Personally, I rarely eat any non-orchard fruit - simply because mass-produced fruit taste like shit.

By this I mean that the fruit has to have been left to ripen on the tree, exposed to the sun and the elements. It goes without saying that it is organic and more or less non-GM too.

In N. America, such fruit is almost impossible to find, leading to my over-reliance on dried fruit, vegetables, and multivitamins.

How do apples fit into all this? Apples happen to be the WORST offenders for tasting like cellophane when mass-produced/harvested or force-ripened (not to mention inundated with pesticides). They taste so horrid to me that I feel they are unhealthy.

If you love apples, lacy, you owe it to yourself to go to a poor country (or even the European countryside), find an orchard or some wild apple trees, and eat off of them. You'll never touch the poison in the market again.

I love apples. If you've got space why not plant an apple tree, you can get dwarf varieties that with pruning only need be 4/5 ft tall. By the time your kid's 6 you'll have more apples than you know what to do with (you can't plant a seed from an apple with much success unfortunately.

Behind my house is an old hospital thats been turned into private housing, on the condition that the developers renovated the old orchard. So now its a community orchard with over 25 different varieties, some of them ancient. Everyone can help themselves to as many as they want, people carrry them off in huge bins, I guess to make cider. In october we celebrate Apple Day (nationally). I want a cider press.

It is correct that apples don't seed true and the chances are you'll get something inedible. Nevertheless a good many of the best varieties just won the genetic lottery for some lucky seeder. Mr Cox of the Cox's Orange Pippin for one.

Enough space? Take the chance.

Um, i was talking about the apples that I buy from a orchard a short drive from where I live at jam. ;)

When i am forced to get them from the supermarket, they sell half bushels from local orchards. Dont forget jersey is the garden state. there is a lot of apples grown locally believe it or not. You go for a 30 minutes drive outside the city areas and there is farmland and shit like that in some counties. So anyways, they sell these bags of locally grown apples, usually they are very small and nice and ripe. i dont like apples that aint ripe. Im mad selective with that shit.

If worst comes to total worst then I will just buy the organic ones. They taste waaaaay better than the regular apples IME. they cost more tho so I dont do that alot. Only if I cant make the drive to the orchard that i prefer goin to.

Also, there is a really good farmers market that aint too far away neither. i go there and stock up sometimes too.

Dont assume that we aint all as advanced as you jam;) I know my fuckin apples yo. :D

She phoenix....i googled Netto's...that aint a variety of apple lol. Im talking about like...do you like red delicious? Granny smith? Macintosh? etc. "Apples from Netto's" aint a breed of apple. You do realize that the supermarkets sell different types of apples there. there aint just one kind that they carry. And even if they only carried one kind it wouldnt be a 'netto apple' lol. Do you know the name of the kind from there that yuo get? If you buy it in a food store there is usually a sticker on the apple that says the kind it is.

Pink Lady! Dunno if they're anywhere else outside of Australia, but when I'm pregnant I just devour them.

I get the organic Fuji, I think. If this is wrong, I'll update it the next time I have an apple, haha. I typically go through ten (a bag) in two weeks. Lately it's been way less since I over did it a few weeks back.

Also got these huge (organic) green apples awhile back and they were delicious! The new grocery store I shop at doesn't have the huge green ones though. :(

LOL at this thread. I normally eat an apple at least every day. Most often, the BIG red delicious when in season, best apples evar :D

I don't mind a Golden Delicious when I feel like something a little sweeter.

I only eat Granny Smiths when they're farm fresh, otherwise they're only good for pies etc.

Lacey, have you ever tried a Nashi Fruit. It's a cross between a Pear and an Apple, YUM =D

...... Be sure to wash all your fruit before eating it if you buy form the store. Unfortunately, fruit these days is sprayed to the shit with chemicals galore.
