Not specifically the tax assessor but yes i have heard of similar things. I know of instances where people steal electricity from the power company (which is a felony on its own), and when they bust into the house to catch people for that, they also discover a basement full of weed. Any time you do something that is illegal and someone catches on you run a risk of getting caught. It's like driving with a suspended license, you shouldn't speed and always use your signal lights, why make yourself obvious. If you're growing pay your taxes, and don't flaunt your un-claimed drug money around.
Also although un-related, in addition to not stealing power also becareful not to spike your use of electricity because the extra power used for growing is a dead giveaway to an already suspicious PD.
