Nostalgia Anyone remember/played the Monkey Island games?

Shure. I loved monkey Island and monkey Island 2 as Kid. Nowadays I don’t find much in Adventures but afair I Player through Both First monkey Island Parts. Remember the largo Embargo?

a pirate fan, i played them all with a friend many, many years ago (even had to do install something extra so the first game would play) but dreamed about gaylord a few nights ago.

now i'm wondering if there is a way to play them again on a modern pc/laptop with a modern os.

Gaylord? Don't you mean 'Guybrush'? Or are you referring to an 'under the counter version?

Fuckin loved those games. The problem is, that I had to play them from floppy disks on an Amiga 1200. I think the last one was on 11 disks, so that was a pain in the arse.

But yeh, the 'point and click' genre was awesome.

yes. you are right.
i had no idea those games were *that* old!
but i do remember that the first point and click i played was "day of the tentacle"
though "play" is not the right word. i watched others play it.

Oh yeah I played all the Lucas Arts/Lucas Film Games in my childhood. They were so much fun. I really liked Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. That's still a much better experience rather than having to watch Indy 4 or 5. The DOS game era in the 90s was something special. First you got this cold 286 machine with monochrome display "for work stuff". Gaming on it was worse than on an ATARI. PC Speaker, etc. I was always envious about the school mates with an Amiga. And fast forward a few years there suddenly were VGA/SVGA and soundblaster cards which completely turned things around. Command and Conquer, Doom. Good times.

Yes, I remember Doom. I played that with another friend who was so good that I didn't even care he took over the controls most of the time.
And there were also the Tomb Raider games.

Right. Tomb Raider was pretty much at the end of the DOS era. Ever played Prince of Persia?

Ever played Prince of Persia?
yes! now that you mention it, that doom friend also had prince of persia.
but i never played it beginning to end.
day of the tentacle?
i think that was the first game i played "passively". at that time it was two people sitting at the computer and like six standing around watching.

Prince of Persia was my first PC game. It was also my first pirated game. Good times.
Day of the Tentacle was amazing yeah. That whole cartoon view was something unheard of before and also with voice acting.

I remember Doom
I had Ultimate Doom on the PS1 it was one of the first games I got and it was awesome.

And this. They remastered it a few years ago so it's really easy to get hold of.

I've actually just modded an old playstation vita with a 256gb sd card and am in the process of downloading all the retro games to it. It's been a fun little project.

i mooched a tv from my parents, which would make it the second tv i own in my life, just because i want to play some games.
if there is one drawback of having a laptop with a uncommon os on it, it's the game playing thing (an yes, i know about wine and vboxes)
