Anyone know why overgrow is down? [UPDATE: OG servers have been turned off]

it wasnt just that....obviously u never used the forums...a great place it was!!

sad day for all smokers and OG supporters....fuck THE DAMN LAW.
 
uh, joan rivers is kinda old, dude...

and you have to do a full format to remove all data. a re-installation just removes the indexes to the files. the data itself is still there, and any data-recovery team can get it no problem.
 
there are plenty of other "grow-oriented" forums that I have recently found as a substitute.... they will grow now more than ever cause everyone from OG wil be looking for a new home

Do whatever reinstall/format you want than run "ENCASE" software to check and see how much data is still there. This subject has been covered and proven for yrs that its very hard to really DELETE DATA from the harddrive.Ever hear about Peter Gutmann's paper "Secure Deletion of Data from Magnetic and Solid-State Memory"??? Now for 99% of everyday users that level is overkill but that said a drug charge involving `feds will get your pc a very detailed check of its contents to be used against you. Why do you think they take your pc? your pornpics? maybe , but your pc will have so much data traces that can/will used against you in court- emails/web history/IM logs/ect.



A buddy of mine fucked up running partition magic and had to format/ reinstall XP
and lost some important reports/files. I emailed to say try "Recover My Files" a really easy/simple program to see what he could save. Well he got most of what he was looking for(txt,zip) and found jpg`s that he had long ago `deleted. He also found plenty of cache data from his websurfing.

Now lets talk about IP`s, its not hard to back trace an IP even with dailup.
A call to the ISP -using a timestamp, logs of users online and they will get very close to who it could be. Using logs over days, wks and they will find you sooner or later. A simple way to `help keep from leaving your true IP is TOR.

By reading the magnetic residue on the disk surface. Its exactly what data recovery companies will do if you bring them a hard drive you dropped into a lake or otherwise seriously fucked up.

You generally need to overwrite the data with a single bit (either 1 or 0), then with random bits, then the bitwise complement of the previous pattern, and then again with a single bit. This needs to be done for at least 7 repetitions.

No, law enforcement isn't going to go through that trouble if they take your computer because it had info on growing and you had 4 plants. But, the point is, if they really want to.. they can.

This isn't extrodinarily expensive to do, either.

I hardly see how any of the above discussion has anything to do with OG.

what we know so far
some time on sunday / monday (time zones) the OG and CW servers were turned off
it seems RC turned them off as he found out he was going to get busted
on tuesday morning RC was arrested along with his wife and some staff
his wife and staff were released on Wed and Friday but RC was still being held
we think he'll get bail today (tuesday) but as a condition of bail it could be that
he isn't allowed to use the internet

as to the servers, were unsure if they have been taken or not
Initial reports said the servers were taken but we have no confirmation on this
myself and several others have been monitoring the OG / CW IP addresses
the IP changed a few times over the last few days but they all point to the OG / CW servers
still being where they were before the bust, and have some active ports (mail etc)
and last time I checked this was still the case

only RC will be able to answer the multitude of questions this situation raises
but as mentioned it may take time for us to find out the whole story

Did he take the money and run? Or did "RC" go into hiding?

The owner of Heaven's Stairway Seeds, CannabisWorld.com and Overgrow.com has apparently dropped his websites and businesses, and has taken off with everything.

No one knows who "Richard Calrisian" is. No one has come forward with information about the websites. There have been no busts, no arrests linked to the owners. The servers seem to be reachable, but are not hosting the websites anymore.

Was RC scared of being investigated? Did he want to stop paying for an enormous database of information (Overgrow.com)?

Everyone who sells seeds seems to be fleeing North America and going to Amsterdam, Switzerland, Spain, England - the far more progressive countries. They don't want to be picked up by the USA or Canadian governments. Now that the Conservatives are elected in Canada, there's far more risks for people operating marijuana enterprises.

I just hope it comes back and all that info and experience posted there isn't lost.
