Anyone have experience with Promethazine (for sleeping)

I've had a major psychotic episode & been pumped full of medication which stole my life away & gave me pretty much every side-effect listed over the course of a year & probably did give me some level of depression or something else for 6 months during which time I had zero quality of life.

From the dsm-iv (yes I know there's v now)

The symptoms are not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e.g. a drug of abuse, a medication) or a general medical condition (e.g., hypothyroidism).

I just get pissed off that someone says I don't have any more reason to have anxiety or depression than your next person because I really do. :!

But I just get on with life anyway.

You have reason to feel very cheesed off, yes. You do not have any more reason to suffer from anxiety and depression.

Believe me, I used to play this 'reasons for depression' one-upmanship game and usually win by miles, but it's complete and utter bullshit. I understand your frustration though, of course.

What's wrong with the ICD, huh? HUH?

^^ I suppose a little but I still feel actually good most the time... I'm not apathetic like I was on medication.

You can't say your depression etc. is worse than anyone else's because of the cause but you can be more likely to have it... are you saying someone who has cancer has the same amount of reason to depressed as someone whose dog died? Yeah. Word.

What are you on about?

Have you not taken any of this in? You don't feel clinically depressed because of anything. It may be triggered by an event or a combination of events, yes. Some people may be more susceptible to it, yes. But aside from that, it's totally indiscriminate and nobody's depression is any 'worse' because of what they might have been through.

Was reading it that way. Rarely you have a reason to be depressed, you just are, unless I'm getting Sammy wrong? This is a big point of contention between me and my mother

Was between mine and myself too. Fucking hell, what a hypocrite she was. 8)

But yeah, that's what I'm trying to say.

I was far more depressed when my dog died than when I got cancer. True story.

And because you're going to ask why, or spectacularly miss the point.

When my dog died, it was the end of a loyal life. Of 17 years. 119 in dog?

When I got cancer I was first angry, not depressed. Then I did some reading and discovered 'cancer' is not the homogenous thing you imply.

Although you first said clinical depression your first comment based on the above was:

Depression strikes indiscriminately; nobody has more 'reason' to be depressed than anyone else.

Therefore, you did not say clinical depression in that instance. As with Shambles, we are arguing about different things.

You really need to stop self-diagnosing for your own sake. Last time you suspected ADD, didn't you?

When you say 'they' thought your hyperfocus was a symptom of Asperger's, what exactly do you mean? Did a psychiatrist suggest AS as a possible cause of your anxiety or something? If so, what about the other symptoms of AS?

I thought I had AD(H)D symptoms because of a lack of concentration, other things blah... but I asked for a referral mostly because of the hyperfocus, which I am not exaggerating or making up. It's quite obvious & affects my life.

Both my GP & the Psychiatrist who was with another Dr. of some description said it sounded like I have AS. They said the other symptoms were anxiety outright.

Of course, it'd only be fairly mild... there's a spectrum & I may sit somewhere in between normal & having a full-blown problem. I had never once looked up Aspergers symptoms or even thought I might have it until they said so.

I'm just waiting for them to call back because they said they needed to consult with their colleagues.

As for other symptoms...

I am a very quiet person, to the extent that people notice it... I know quite a few people thought I was weird at Uni because I was so quiet. I also have trouble in social situations without the use of alcohol or drugs. Even then, I sometimes have no idea what to talk to people about. Doesn't mean it's definitely that but it would seem logical...

That sounds pretty unusual to say the least. Surely if your GP suspected AS you should've been referred to a specialist in that area and then assessed accordingly?

The CAARS questionnaire covers ADHD, Bi-Polar & AS, perhaps other things too.

I think the same person deals with it all initially. There is a lot of crossover between all those conditions symptom wise.

They are probably consulting because of the prior problems & possible misdiagnosis. It's not very apparent what is going on.

Is CAARS even used in the UK?

I've actually been diagnosed with one of the conditions you listed and have friends with some of the others, so I know the drill.

I've never heard of any experience like yours, to be frank. I was informed of my diagnosis immediately.

Just went for an SpLD screening myself today, got an appointment with a psychiatrist tomorrow as well. Full mentals (hopefully not).
