Anyone have experience with Products/Edibles from dispensaries? Particularly in CA?

I'm new to California and I am looking for the lowdown on this dispensary thing.

Is the MJ every bit as good as what you get on the street? Is it honest and pure? Does anyone experience effects that could only be described as "the mans weed"

Are the edibles legit? Or is it better to buy your own large batch and make your own?

Ha... I sound like a major stoner, couldn't be farther really. I'm a responsible aspiring pyschonaut who LOVES the mental edge and insights marijuana gives. I am paranoid about different strains not having as positive of effect.

Thanks for any help guys!

Depends on the dispensary, but overall the quality is much more consistent than the street, I'm sure there's shady dispensaries, but quality is least of your worries with Cali Medical...Where are you from that you'd be worried about this?

I'm from Dallas, TX. Finding a dealer was a shady enough experience, and if you asked them about their product it was the very stereotypical "This shit is way better than last week" kind of thing.

Several of my less enlightened friends couldn't even tell the difference between indica and sativa. The standard just wasn't set very high, and the drug is very much frowned upon by many of the states inhabitants.

I don't know what that is. If you mean searching for dealers then no, I am not. I wasn't asking for particular locations or anything, I was curious because I have never been in a dispensary before and wasn't sure I could trust what I read online about them.

Don't get all totalitarian on me.

I don't think this is sourcing.

To answer your question OP, it really varies. There are a lot of dispensaries that charge xxx for their top shelf, and then the next week the move it down to the mid grade, and the week after that its their low grade. A lot of it is bullshit business like that. They don't check the legitimacy of the strains, the edibles are hit and miss, but when you find a good club and a good edible making business, you'll be in heaven.

What dispensaries are you going to, I'm not trying to be mean or start anything, but I'm shocked by what you said. We live in the same place and I've never been to a club that seems so, well, bad. Expensive, scamming on the quality, illegitimate strains, hit and miss edibles? A lot of those edibles are companies that are consistent. I'm not even talking about Kiva bars, but Buddha Brothers and companies like that.

Ok maybe I am biased because the clubs I have been to have mainly been the top of the line ones. I can definitely see smaller clubs being more fair on prices, but a lot of those have a lesser quality, and I was looking for quality, so I went to the big guys. Most of the big clubs (now don't get me wrong all the bud is fire, just mis/overpriced for medicine for sick people) switch their strains around the top mid and low shelf in order to make room for the ridiculous amount of new product that they have coming in. I have talked to a lot of growers who dispense and many agree that clubs that are out to make money are pretty shady.

And dude Kiva Bars are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fucking good.

Oh so what I meant about the edibles was that many companies put something along the lines of 1 dose or 4x or something on their package and that doesn't mean shit because nothing is standardized. I've had a one dose that floored me, while a 5 dose barely got me high. You just have to find the right companies.

I find that smaller clubs usually have the best quality and the best prices. Either way I usually see that prices are pretty consistent except when the clubs are in areas known to be very rich, cause then they can over charge. The one thing that I was really surprised you wrote is that strains aren't legitimate. At the clubs I frequent, and in the scene in my area, if someone finds out that you mislabeled a strain, the business could be decimated. I've seen it happen.

I think the most interesting thing to take away from our comparison of clubs is that it just goes to show you how weed can work like any other capitalist endevour.

I started smoking pot in the early '90s, I've actually had brown brick weed that would barely get you high. The generation that started smoking pot in the '00s really has no idea how dramatically things have changed for the better. It really could be considered like a revolution.... Even pot that's considered average these days is still really good, and pretty much anything you get in California through a dispensary is gonna get you really high...

If anything, I think a lot of the weed these days is too strong....If I sit there and take 8 bong rips over the course of an hour, I end up way higher for way longer than I want to be sometimes...Of course, the dispensaries have weaker strains that don't pack so much of punch...It's gotten to the point with weed, especially in Cali, that it would really take a hard-core daily smoker to be able to differentiate quality past a certain point. It would be like doing a blind test on different liquors ranging from 65-80 proof...after 4 or 5 drinks it's all the same...that might be a bad comparison though, considering different strains of weed have different levels of actives in them...Still, at the end of the day, "high is high" IMO...

I dont mean to be rude (because i really am not)
but if these things worry you, why not bake some stuff up yourself?
butter (GOOD butter) can be made considerably cheaper and then u can make alot more of what u want).
Personally i think making butter is easy and doent take much time at all. (you can control potency by how much u put in the mix)
