Just wondering if anyone has or know somone that has overdosed on speed. I am wondering as I have heard that it is a rare occurance.
If so how much did they do?
How long had they been doing speed?
What method of injestion oral, nasal, IV, smoking?
I would think that IV would be the most common injestion with people that OD. I think that smoking would be less likely to cause someone to OD. I know that smoking meth causes the drug to be absorbed by the brain in a few seconds, but when one exhales the majority of the drug is released. If this is true then, by somoking it, the build up of a lethal amount of meth would be less likely to occur. With all other methods the body absorbs far more of the drug, making it more likely that one would OD.
This is just an idea, I know that someone will know.

Well, this dude I know went into convulsions after a couple of days of big time speed binging, not surprising really. He also experienced a heart attack a few years later, but I didn't know him then so I don't know the details. Mostly he snorted, though, only IV'd rarely when I knew him.
I'd say the biggest risk you run with large doses is probably heart failure...

Yeah my friend Peter ODed twice after IVing too much meth. He had a couple of strokes, paralysis on one side of his body, but he's not paralized anymore thank Chrsit. Another time the fucker killed himself by doing a speed ball using .6 meth followed by .3 heroin. Having been a virgin to H, that stopped his heart. I keep telling him he is one lucky fuckin Mexican to be alive. He don't IV H anymore.

^^^^^That cannot be classified as ODing on meth. I'm sure the person would have had just as much trouble with just the heroin alone. I know of two people, who were friends of friends, who died from meth. One was from a heart attack, and the other I'm not sure but I think it was a stroke. But to have a heart attack on meth I would assume that you must have a preexisting heart condition that makes you more suceptible to heart attack. And as far as stroke goes, you have to be doing a LOT to cause that. But snorting can cause major problems too: Check this Erowid report out. But I think the LD50 for meth is quite high.
Also I think the majority of meth fatalities invloves cominations of other drugs as well, as the one mentioned before.

I believe there are estimates of a lethal dose for an adult being one gram of pure methamphetamine. It is a bit unsubstantiated tho.
(Merck actually says that even massive doses are rarely fatal. Although there may be some psychotoxic effects...blah blah blah... Some longterm users have reportedly injected as much as 15 grams in a 24 hour period without observable accute illness.)
The LD50 is probably very high, but many other factors exist that are completely subjective; heart conditions, mental stability, etc.
Edit: Merck Manuel says otherwise

My man had a man panic attack on as little as 50mg's of meth. dunno how pure it was but he was dumb and took it when i said not to unless i (the master) was around. spasticated loon toon smoked a load of cananbis and wound up in hospital for valium and ecg check up. not that i can blame him for getting worried (it can happen to anyone). just what sort of lunatic goes to the mental home for a whole year of his life??? Spasticated loon tune, that guy has crazy!!!

I had a minor OD once...
While really -really- drunk, I did a 20-25mg line every 15min over the course of 3-4 hours. Not a good idea, I tell you. My resting heart rate was around 190-220. (It was significantly faster than drum&bass.) I ended up laying in bed for about 3 hours, waiting for the chemical to at least partially wear off, which it did thankfully.
It freaked me the fuck out for a good few hours, though. I didn't know my heart could beat that fast without seizing. Thankfully it didn't, and I learned a good lesson. (Don't do drugs when you're really drunk :P At least not a lot of them.)

I really don't think you're going to get a clear-cut answer. The effects of meth are so different for different people. The chance of overdosing is very low, just don't binge too hard. That seems to be what causes the most problems. But I bet one dose over doses are very uncommon.

2 summers ago I came down from a 6 month binge of doing glass every single day. I couldnt get out of bed for 3 days and I had temperatures of up to 105 =(

I dont know if thats OD, but thats my info.

At the time, I only snorted.
